After reading Lights Out, I placed plenty of one and two liter bottles of water in the deep freeze.  Yesterday, our refrigerator expired, but it was not a problem because we had plenty of ice.

The repairman was impressed that cold air rolled out of a broken refrigerator, then he saw the two liter blocks of ice.

He thought I was brilliant until I told him I read it in a book.

I always keep frozen 2 liter bottles in my chest freezer and in the upright freezer in the garage.

1) An extra way to store water without needing bleach, etc
2) Keeps food cold in an outage
3) More efficienct / you wlluse less energy in the freezer.

been using 2L bottles of water frozen for years and didnt need to read a book. for Irene i used just plain ol bottled water since the 2L bottles would have taken up to much space in the fridge/freezer and we dont have a chest freezer any more. lost power for appx 5 hours and everything was still well under 40* in the fridge and still frozen in the freezer part.

I transfer frozen water bottles from the garage freezer to my travel trailer freezer before trips. It cools down the fridge/freezer quicker and makes it run more efficiently.

I have plenty of 2 liter water bottles in the fridge, wish I'd put some in the freezer too! My electricity was turned off this morning and it may be a few weeks before I can afford to turn it back on. Fortunately I had a bag of ice - I put my frozen food into a bucket with that ice dumped around it, but a few 2-liters in the freezer might have allowed me to keep my food for a few more days.

Once money is caught up again, I definitely want to get a copy of LIGHTS OUT! For now tho, my lights really are out so...
