Just wanted to let you all know about a couple things I noticed this last week....
Last week there was a house fire in our neighborhood just a few doors up, thankfully the entire family was able to get our of the house safely but they lost everything. It actually took the fire department 45 min to get here when it should only take 7 min (This is an issue we are trying to resolve with them and no they were not on any other calls) The family lost everything including both of there vehicles. That night we had a neighborhood meeting at our house to see what we can do for the family and probably 100 people showed up. We were also able to raise and give them about $600 that night including a bunch of clothing. One of our neighbors manages a car dealership and has loaned them one of there rental cars also a nearby apartment has given them a furnished apartment until they can find a more long term place to live while the house is being rebuilt. We are also having a fund raiser at the local grocery store with a cookout and help from some of the local businesses on Thursday. But the 1st thing I noticed is how quickly our community came together to help these people and I thought to myself with all of the shit going on in the World that their is still some good left in it and maybe this country can turn itself around if it really wants to....time will tell..... The 2nd thing I noticed which is preached here all the time....BE PREPARED for anything! Yes a lot of us prepare for an economic meltdown, zombie invasion and so on but the chances of something like that happening are a lot less then just the everyday things, the owner of the house didnt even have a pair of pants when he got out. I believe it was the furnace that sparked in the garage which caught the car on fire and then the car blew up and finally the rest of the house. Just wanted to share this with you guys. Have a good night! |

Have a good night! Also goes to show why the cheap insurance policies are not much of a bargain when you really need them. A good policy would have put them up in a motel for a few days until long term arrangements could be made, and would have paid for a rental car for a destroyed car until the car could be replaced. This is why now and then I preach that proper insurance is your first line of defense against personal SHTF. Most times, it is all that is ever needed. Many times there is very little difference in cost between the policies that actually take care of you after a problem like this and ones that leave all kinds of things up to you to pay for. |
