Last night about 2100 we had a flicker of lights then darkness. Great, power went off. No big deal, we've been without power before.
After a hour of setting up oil lamps, getting things set out so we knew where they were we decided to go to bed and see what was up in the morning. 0400 comes around and I'm wide awake, some moron on a 2 cycle motorcycle is riding in a down pour of rain. What an idiot I think to myself. Oh well I guess I'll get up and start my coffee. Go downstairs to get the camp stove to set it up in the garage and the first step off the stairs lands my foot in 5" of water. Oh yeah I thought, the sump pump doesn't work to well without electricity. After a quick survey of the basement things I found that are going to be changed. 1. Battery back up for the sump pump 2. All non essential crap that is down there gets up and off the floor. 3. Particle board book shelves that are overloaded with books don't like water. Things my kids learned 1. Dear ol' dad isn't as dumb as they think when he says that the nice new X- Box 360 probably shouldn't be sitting on the floor. 2. When dad asks them to take the 3, 25 lb bags of flour to the basement and to put them on the shelve, he doesn't mean to put them "By the shelve on the floor". 3. All the clothes and band uniform that the 16 year old boy has laying around on the floor in his bedroom hold a lot of water. On the plus side, the garden is getting a much needed watering. |
