Just came across a couple of interesting speeches via the "Long Now" website (http://longnow.org/about/). One is by a Russian who provides advice on how to weather the (according to him) imminent collapse of the US socioeconomic system, based on the Russian experience in the early 1990s: http://fora.tv/fora/fora_transcript_pdf.php?cid=9132. The other is on some steps that people should take to avoid such a collapse, based on historic patterns of how civilizations thrive and collapse: http://fora.tv/fora/fora_transcript_pdf.php?cid=11732. Both speeches were written to appeal to a rich liberal hipster crowd , and thus they omit important stuff like "when it's fo time, shoot the bastards" , but from glancing over them (it's a long read) they contain some useful information. |
