| The power went out at my parents house last week and their old florecent lantern has crapped out. I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a quality LED lantern. AA or C battery preferred, but i know many of the larger ones are D. I am going to buy 2 of them so it dosent need to be massive, just enough to get around the house and light a room maybe 15x15ft |

Kinda pricey but my backpacking version of this bigger lantern has been a winner... http://www.rei.com/product/807911 |

I've got a couple of these based on the excellent reviews on Amazon.com. They work great.

If you want something different in a rechargeable light , I have been testing a Might-D-light it is a rechargeable led light intended to be a work light I have 1 at work and a new Camo one here for me. It is not cheap but comes with a 12v and a 110v charger and has advertised 2 hour run time. new it would gradually get dim but run over 5 hours . Amazon has pretty good reviews of the thing . There is a newer smaller battery powered one coming , It is handy in that it has a hook to hang it as well as magnets to hold it to the car etc. I have a friend who is an engineer for the company that makes them . It has been better than I expected , they have some other nice LED stuff as well like solar powered flood lights |

This...... it's been discussed at length before and is a solid little 3-AA lantern with various brightness levels. I like it and own 3.

| River Rock K2 lantern. It's pocket size, uses 3 AA, puts out a lot of light for its size. If you remove the top it can act as a pseudo flashlight or stood on end and get tons of light from bounce off a interior ceiling. Received very good reviews on candlepower forum. They were being clearanced at Target for $5-10 |

and the other one, too. I bought this one and the other one after the reviews here. My son has had the Energizer Weather Ready Folding Lantern and has abused it and it still lights. |

I have a bunch of these... batteries last forever... use them mostly as night lights at my cabin... I tested one set of batteries and I was getting over two weeks of 24x7 use using the LED... the other bulb should not even be included... it's not alot brighter but I guess it uses much more energy... |

The coleman I reviewed in the thread below is great for the money. These give even better light quality for double the cost. I haven't brought myself to buying any D cell lanterns. The batteries just cost too much and they are way more expensive for rechargeables compared to AA. I have thought for a long time about buying one of the energizer lanterns that take the regular old incandescent bulb and putting the spare nite eyes replacement into it and seeing what the run time would be like, but I know I will not be stocking up D batteries so its just a toy for me. |

I chose this for my ultralight camping and BOB setups. Works great and lasts much longer that the advertised 12 hours with AAA lithium batteries.

I like the stand.....and DC capability. For the home.....one of the solar rechargeable....the kids have these....and they work well. |
