I have been a reader here for a couple of years and a member here for a while. I dont post often on any site, i just like to read what others have to say(kinda my stress reliever) anyway i was reading a story over at frugals when a message popped up that i was banned for life for not meeting the posting requirements. Very unusual. Seems very counter productive to me. Well i guess you all need to get busy and keep me entertained and my stress level low. |

Don't know the owner personally, but what I do know points to the fact that he's a bit of an odd duck, if you were. There are others here who can flesh it out a bit more, but.... I used to frequent his site quite a bit, but I haven't been over there in a while since he went on a rant about something, and just kinda 'turned me off' to wanting to hang out there. |

Strange indeed. To bad, I learned alot over there and alot of good people frequent the site. I spend my whole day talking to people on the phone, in person and via email, by the end of the day im kinda talked out.
I did just upgrade to a paying member status. I figured if AR-15 can put up with my 34 posts in the last six years i could cough up 24 bucks. lots of good info here, i check in several times per day on my blackberry. |

i used to hang out there back in my early internet / prepping days maybe around '98 or so... long ago forgot my log in or password, found this place in '05-'06 and lurked for a while before taking the plunge.... haven't looked back and don't regret it, but then again i don't venture over to GD very often either K. |

I hung out there regularly some years back, but there was a huge purge when many of the best members were excommunicated. I self-banned myself after that episode, soured me to the whole site. Too bad, there were a lot of practical preppers there. Same here. I also did not like how it was the status quo to buy everything from them, including Wendy Mae. Greedy, opportunistic people capitalizing on people's fears sour me quickly. Fuck Frugal Squirrel and the acorn he rode in on.

Too bad, there were a lot of practical preppers there. Not to re -hash old bullshit. But the bold is what happened...not the other way around, there was no site wide admin/mod ordered purge. The reason you got the ban message(OP) was that a few months ago ( 4-5 ago) they instituted a min/ post rule. basically if your account wasnt active or you just lurked you were given X amount of time to full fill that or get locked out( like 1 post a month or some stupid bs) How do i know this. I got locked out when the rule 1st started because i didnt post anything in 3 weeks. It is to cut down on lurkers, trolls and other BS i am sure. Like any other forum, its privately owned, and the owner makes the rules ( just like they do here). No one forces you to read a web forum or join there...the forum mods/admin however have to enforce their forums COC's. Getting butt hurt about breaking the COC,is no different than watching folks here in GD get banned and hearing them cry about it on a different forum. It shows lack of maturity and character IMHO............... |
| Like 5 years ago, I tried to log on to frugalsquirrels, and it wouldn't let, I tried to re-register, but it still wouldn't let me log on, and I have never been back since. Tom Sherry the author of Deep Winter/Shatter etc, had a lot of problems with them. So my feeling to them is good bye and good riddance. ARFCOM SF is much better forum. They have nothing there that I need. |
|
I don't know much about them other than it seems very religiously oriented, and not exactly a mainstream version of a religion either. I got turned off by that very quickly.
I read things about them now and then on other sites and here. Nothing real flattering, or that would make me regret not being there. It's not as if whatever is posted there is not available elsewhere and with less BS. You are missing nothing by not being there IMO. OTOH, if you like being a faithful member of his flock, go for it. Some people are more comfortable that way |

I've been a member for quite a while and I've never had any problem with anyone over there, including the owner. I not a religious person, so I stay out of their religious section anyway.
It's not a bad place, a lot less crazy than GD and far more polite than say, Pirate4x4. I can live with it. |

That's not how I remember it, but it was a number of years ago (2006?). I imagine it's happened more than once given the somewhat ornery nature of the owner. IIRC FerFAL was there at the time and was one of the members that left/got purged, he may remember it better than I do. I think it had something to do with anti-Catholicism now that I think about it. Meh, doesn't matter much, ancient history. |

I like frugalsquirrels but you have to be very careful what you say or you'll get the boot. I joined there October 2008 and just recently joined here.
They went through a bunch of attacks from the looney left so they changed a bunch of policeys after the election of Berry the kenyan.

Meh, doesn't matter much, ancient history. again..what some remember and what actually went down are two different beast....and again..... it is a privately owned forum, like arfcom and many many others on teh web . It has a COC, it also has an owner. If the owner of arfcom wanted to he could ban anyone who preaches the AK platform is better than the AR,its his forum. Would people cry about it, sure, would some people leave arfcom,sure........but most wouldn't.. fwiw i also saw the mass "purge" from WR....which seem to rallya round the the same cast of players that caused all the "self banning" over at frugals only a few months earlier........( two separate forums, two separate owners...in 4 months time....but both deemed the "bad" guys" by the flock of crying sheep)..i bet those same people were in the right for that "self banning" as well ..maybe...at least in their minds.... but hey like you said...ancient history right....by gone's be by gone's and all that water under the bridge jazz. |

His site, his rules.
It's not like there's a shortage of survivalist forums out there. They all have more or less the same information. It's the community that's different - that's really what makes the forum. Frugal's simply jumped the shark. This forum is superior in most every respect that matters to me. I don't really find that I miss that one. |

I got banned a couple years ago for linking to alternate site that sold cheaper, better quality Mylar bags then they did.... what a bunch of shit. ARFCOM rules all, although there are some other good sites on the net, but frugal squirrels ain't one of them. Just my opinion... YMMV. |

Well,
I am a bit suprised by some of the comments here. My post was intended to mean that the owner of Frugals has a store front of sorts selling products from his site, to ban someone for life over a low post count ( thus removing a potential customer) is counter productive to running a successfull busines. I spend money on preps and look for the best price for the particular product(s). So he has in effect removed all posibility of me purchasing anything from him. I get the whole his site his rules. I could go into a whole lecture on how i think he is wrong and hypocritical but no good can come of it. I will miss the fiction section but i did delete the shortcut to the site. |

I like Frugals myself. There are some great people over there. Less smartasses than at Arfland.
There have been some good people who have left that I was sorry to see go, but the same could be said for Arfcom. Forums ebb and flow. Years ago I was a big fan of AR15.com then some things have happened that soured me on this site, mostly in General Discussion. Same thing happened at FS a few years ago when a few people purged the Catholics. Things happen. But yes, there's great info both here and at Frugals. It's just IMO, there's less douchebaggery and smartass factor at FS. |

Like said earlier the guy that owns it sets the rules.
I got banned from Frugals not for being Catholic but defending one.
Then I got banned from Viking Preparedness for not posting enough because I was out of town, funny how he doesn't apply the same rules to his buddies though.

I won't bash FS. They have treated me nice. Big percentage of good people with good ideas. I don't talk religion here or there.
In full disclosure, I spend more time here and have posted much more here. They are more prepping/homesteading where here is more prepping/weapons. I've seen a few people from here over there. There attire is more 'hair combed, khakis and a dress shirt, except on Saturdays.' Over here we are more 'camo t'shirt, jeans and a beer, except on Sunday's.' So when I visit their site. I comb my hair and tuck in my shirt. |

I'm not a catholic but when he ran those guys off (say what you will but that's what happened) I decided not to go there anymore either. I understand its a privately owned board, blah, blah, blah, but it just didn't seem quite right to me.
I served 23 years in the Army. I didn't serve just to protect the rights of those I happen to agree with. I know that its different, but its close enough for me
