Auction is over now but govliquidation had an M1078 up:
Picture link, cant get it to display for some reason http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/view_photo?eventId=5627&lotNumber=6703&picNumber=3 I didn't see what the final sale price was but it was up to $27,444 when I looked. MiniRant: The original acquisition price was listed as being just north of $106,000 and it had just 1584 miles on it. As you can see from the pictures, it's in pristine condition. Why was this acquired in 1995 for $106k and basically never used, only to be put up for auction? This seems like a HUGE, unjustified waste of taxpayer money... |

I understand how you feel, but please consider. This is a fire truck that the agency should be able to depend on. The original purchase price probably includes parts and labor to outfit that one ton pickup into a fire truck. Pretty easy to spend cubic dollars when you are building things; especially if the production run is only one. Yes it has very low miles, but is it reliable? Yes there are several of us that could keep that truck running, but how many of us are willing to bet our job on that truck as our only transportation; I would not. There may be a rare pare that has to be special ordered in with weeks delay. Having the truck down when needed would be a greater waste of taxpayer monies. My truck is only 11 and I have to get some parts from the "classic" truck parts mail order source. Other parts must come from wrecked trucks the same age as mine. The county cannot afford to pay a mechanic to go find some exotic part by walking to and fro in a scrapyard. Even at minimum wage for the mechanic it would be cheaper to support a newer truck, and you don't get enough talent at minimum wage to get classic parts found. That level of talent will find a higher paying job. 12 |
