What is the approx size and cost for something like that?

thanks everyone...

it's 30x20 and costs around $2800... about $1800 for lumber and $700 for the roofing + misc....

most of the lumber is from a local Amish saw mill and they seem to be charging around $.38 a board foot... the roofing also came from a Amish place where they make it on site... everything else is from HD...

I didn't watch the vids, but I hope you had a nailgun.  I built a 24X40 pole barn years back and my right arm looked like popeye's after pounding all of those ring shanks.  I hate those things.

Couple of questions from a city-dweller:

Does the open side face south to catch sunlight?

I take it no grass will grow due to trees and the roof.  With no grass, and no foundation, how does it dry out inside after a lot of rain?  Does it remain a soggy mess for a long time?

We have it facing southeast. The reason is that the prevailing weather comes from the north and west... depending on the season.

For sunlight I am probably going to pull the end two roof panels next year and put the clear ones in... I will be running electric but don't want to run lights during the day if not needed...

The floor is a gravel mix they use on the sides of roads... it sets up pretty hard and is not muddy... mostly gravelly... the ground in the barn actually slops slightly to the front and right when looking straight at it... and the terrain around the barn takes most run off away from the barn... so so far no mud...

Finished up the siding and most of the batons... in the final stretch... which is good as the first snow of the season is coming (got some wet snow during the day) and deer season is too....

Very nice. I've been doing some restoration work on an old barn I own, so I can appreciate the time, effort and money you have spent. Good choice on the metal roof, I went the same route and have been very pleased with the results.

Man that is nice.  There is no way you could build something like that around here for what you paid.

Thanks for sharing.  I enjoy these project videos.

BTW, You are classic, second guessing the entire time.

That's a nice barn and at a good price too.

Does your pole barn create a taxable structure where you live? Here in NH, well, MY town at least, a pole barn is gtg and untaxable if it has no enclosing walls. By definition, a pole barn is poles supporting a roof and thats all. Don't get me wrong here - your's is beautiful, and I am quite envious - but a structure like that would add about $800 to my taxes each year. I'm at $4000 a year now!

it's taxable... when we did the permit they ask us what we think it's worth... we told them $2k... so our tax increase will be based on that... there will be no inspector coming out... they never do unless it's for a house... the permitting process was just giving them a box on a paper with the approximate set backs from the property lines... if we were in a more populated area it would be very different... it's pretty easy where we are...
