I saw in another thread how much you guys like them. I bought two and they worked fine the first year but won't stay lit now. I bought the hose and filter to run them off a 20 pounder and after five minutes both will shut off. I tried running them with and without the filter and I'm running the six foot hose from Buddy Heater. They seem to run OK with the 1 pound tanks for the most part but still sometimes turn off.  I can't believe I would get two bad ones in a row.  Any ideas?

Any chance the auto shut off circuit for tip over is doing it?
I know nothing about them, but was thinking of getting one as a back up. The recent posts have been catching my eye.

Sounds like the safety feature is tripping.  If the area has poor ventilation, it can cause the O2 sensor to trip.

This.

I use two of the Buddy heaters extensively. What you describe will happen with poor ventilation.

I don't think poor ventilation is the culprit. I tried both of them in my shed/shop that has way too much ventilation (burrrr) and they did the same thing.

Try it outside and see if it cuts off. If so, I would still think it's the anti tilt cut off.

I have two... one did the same thing...

It's the pilot light heat sensor, not staying hot enough to keep the gas valve open.

Try cleaning the pilot light tube... it's not easy.  Try pipe cleaners or compressed air.
Once this is done, you may notice the pilot light slightly larger, which keeps the sensor hot.

I expect there will be a lot of Buddy heaters trashed, or sold as junk due to this " fault ".

The " low oxygen sensor "  incorporated into the pilot light design - sucks.

Most people would not guess the pilot light is not heating the sensor enough... critical to the " safety " of the unit - also it's operation... a lot of people will be left cold and disappointed.

You may find them in the trash ....

that sounds like a great plan to get a free one, but i wouldnt expect the type of person that would use a buddy heater would be the type to throw them out.

Mine would not light after summer storage. I cleaned the tube out with a q-tip and it's fine now.

I'll give it a shot.
