Interesting observations and a question.

Took Mrs. Taft to an Air Show in Santa Maria yesterday.  Nice show by the way.   It was well represented by the US Marines, the US Navy and the US Air Force.

They had a C117, (2) C-130's, several Super Cobra's, several Seahawk's (Blackhawks) and a Huey UH-1(Y) model and a 46 Echo.  Even a Spitfire.

This is what I noticed.  Instead of MS2000 strobes I suspected they were carrying in their aircrew vests, I found they were mostly carrying these:

The Marines love them.

Anyone have these ? any good ?

I have one of those- works pretty well.  The multiple color option is nice, and the IR works well for close-in illumination with the PVS-14.  This is not a long-distance light though- mostly for navigation.

I've been using one for about two years now, and absolutely love it.  It's perfect for tasks close at hand, when you don't want or need 200 lumens.  I used mine mostly while teaching firearms on night evolutions.  The colored LED's let you assist students without ruining their (or your) night vision.  It has a strobe function, as well.  The IR is just right for close-up tasks with NODs.  I'm pretty hard on mine, and it just won't break.  Runs forever on two AA batteries.

Our helo crews use them a lot, too.  The Aircrew version has the red LED replaced with green, since red can wash out instruments, and won't show hydraulic fluid.

For the price, I don't think there's a better unit out there.  Highly recommend it.

By the way, they make another model that runs off of one CR123 battery.  It's about as big as just the swivel head of the model pictured.  It would be perfect for a helmet mount......very small and light.

Forgot to add............the blue LED makes blood light up like it's glowing.  Very handy for tracking blood trails.

I have one as well and I take it everywhere.
I like that it uses (easy to get) AA batteries.
I run mine with rechargeable AA's and it works well.

They come in 2 versions....
White, blue, red, green
-or-
White, blue, red, IR

I bought the IR version (not sure why), guess at the time I figured I might be getting some NV goggles or something

Each light has low, medium and high, plus strobe.
The outside of the case has moulded '+ ' signs so you can change the batteries in the dark.
Had mine for a couple of years now and no problems at all.

Looks nice depending on what you need it for! Would not buy anything from botach there a bunch of cheating SOBs have screwed many people on this site over. If your looking for a small light take a look at the Zebralights here at the bottom of the page.

I've got a couple. Highly recommend for everyday "emergency" light.
Very tough. I've got the AA versions. Very adaptable. Only downside is slightly heavy for a 2 AA light.
