Last summer I went to one of the nearby state parks and watched some demonstrations on different things. This picture is from one I went to at Bull Shoals State Park. They demonstrated cast iron cooking. They cooked fish and then for dessert cooked apple cobbler and cherry cobbler. Here's what the apple cobbler looked like:

There are lots of other demonstrations and classes.
Oh, BTW, anybody interested in Dutch Oven cooking might like to go to Jasper, Arkansas in July for the annual Buffalo River Elk Festival. They have a Dutch Oven Cook-off, and the real Dutch Oven gourmets come out to play for that. You can read up on it at:

Click on the Buffalo River Elk Festival, then go down the menu to Dutch Oven Cook-off.

what the hell is inside their dutch oven?  Tin foil is for wearing on your head, not for the inside of the cook pot.

The Dutch Oven in the picture has apple cobbler(and it was delicious). The guy doing the cooking said he put the foil in there to make cleaning easier. He made the cobbler right there in the pot, dumping in the ingredients, flour, canned fruit, etc. and stirring them a bit before putting the pot on the fire. It didn't take long for the cobbler to be done, and when he took the foil out, the pot was pretty clean.

I'll have to try and make that. I'm just over the mountain from Jasper and I got me a new dutch oven to try out. I wonder if miss Phyllis Speer will be there? That woman is a kick-A dutch oven cook!
