I'd like to pick up a flint and steel.  Any recommendations?

For an "antique" set of flint and steel firestarter kit, remember the steel is just as important. Use a soft piece iron for hottest sparks. And typically the flint should be of high quality with few inclusions (no other pieces of stone)

A consistant grey color is a good indicator of a quality piece of flint. You can order these through many of the blackpowder weapon sites or pick them up at most civil war reinactments.

Depending on your state it can be found in many places. Here in GA I have found a few really nice chunks of it laying around in some old rock walls.

Badger firesteel
Striker

That little combo throws the best sparks of anything I have ever used.

I have been using a strikeforce flint.

But they are made by a different company now.
