My 13-year-old son and I built a snow cave this afternoon and are going to sleep in it tonight. I used a 4' x 8' sheet of thin ABS plastic for the interior (like a quonset hut) and heaped snow on top and stacked it on the open sides. We have about 4' square inside with a 3' ceiling at the peak. It'll be tight, but it's going down to 19 degrees tonight, so that's not a bad thing. Just for fun, I ran some wire between the cave and my bedroom so we can talk to my wife on field phones.

I'll be sleeping in my issue 3-piece sleep system.  My son has a zero-degree commercial bag.  I've been wanting to do this for a while.  I'm glad we finally have the snow to do it.

I'd be hard pressed to actually sleep if I had to cram my 6'4" frame in a 4' space.

I'm 5'9".  If fetal position doesn't work, my feet will be out the door.

Put a rug over the door and that quintzee hut will stay in the 30+ deg range.

I thought about that, but to be honest, I was worried about us suffocating.
