I've seen this book referenced many times on this site but thought I would share link that I recently found with everyone.  Its a free online and downloadable version of a series of books called Where there is no doctor.  For those not familar the title says it all...  http://www.hesperian.org/publications_download.php

good find. I have "where there is no doctor" and it is full of great information.  Probably a good idea to get a hard copy as well. It seems like half my brain is on the internet or on my computer sometimes.

In lieu of actual medical or first aid training and experience, I find a neck  tourniquet works best.
