Looking for a storage box/container for my BOV, be it truck with campre shell, or car trunk.

What are your best ideas?

Thx.

I bought a $20 "trunk locker" box at walmart not too long ago. I wanted a box that could be used in the back of my SxS ATV bed. This was the cheapest I could find. The design of the lid is such that rain falling on it will not get inside the box. (It isn't designed for outdoor use, but it seems to work.) I use it to keep things like a spare warm jacket, a machete, some rope and carabiners, tie straps, survival kit, drinking water, etc. for rides on the ATV. It gets really dusty here in the summer, so I needed a way to keep dust off of my gear. I wound up drilling the sides and bolting on a couple pieces of chain and then using some screw links to secure it to the tie down points in the bed of the ATV. It won't stop a determined theif, but for the quick stop at the grocey store or gas station, it will keep most people honest. Plus, it can't fly out of the bed if I hit a ig bump.

Online they want quite a bit more than I paid in-store. Might be worth a look in the store to see if they have them.

I drive a Jeep Cherokee and installed a locking steel box that the 4X4 shop had for a Wrangler. It is fairly heavy gauge steel and locks really securely. Nothing is fool proof but it would take a crook a while to get into... I use this for firearms transport and secure stowage of the laptop, etc... This and a kill switch makes me feel alright parking most anywhere! I have pictures posted here...

I have a Nissan Frontier king cab and I went with aDelta Pro chest in black. I went with black as it doesn't jump out at you like the aluminum would against the black bedliner. I didn't want a cross-over chest because I might go with a tonneau cover or cap later. It's pretty rugged and I think the lock would slow down a determined thief.

It's large enough to hold my Maxpedition Vulture backpack along with boots and a bunch of other necessities which I used to keep in the rear seat area.

I bought on sale a 100 quart Coleman cooler to store my BOV supplies . Works great in the back of the truck and coolers are made tough so it can take alot of rough use .
Most of those plastic storage boxes that HD and Lowes sells just don't seem very rugged .
It was about 40 bucks and Costco is a great place to pick one up .

Seems like a cooler would be fairly good camo too?

Already have both of those, although my turtle topper isn't insulated. Not really what I was thinking about, although the cooler had already crossed my mind.

Keep 'em coming.

I have a bunch of the Rubbermaid ActionPacker picked up mostly at Walmart.
The 8 gal size are nice, they are hard to overfill and be unable to lift by a single person,  I have 3 of these filled with my truck camping gear (stove, fire sources, bug spray, kitchen stuff, tarps, ropes and pins.  Basically, all the stuff you don't want to forget, but if packing fresh each trip will forget something important on the list).
I have one of the 24 gal size in the back of the truck.  It holds an oil change, spare bulbs (headlight, taillight, turn signals), jackstand, tow chain and a 100+ Craftsman socket/tool set.  Essentially the truck repair kit.  The size and contents allowed it to get a little heavy for me to carry easily, but it is maneuverable over short distances.
The mostly uniform size of all the 8 gal boxes make it easy to load and stack in the back of the truck.  Excess space is padded/filled with spare jackets and/or sleeping bags.
I have a cap on my truck which gives me locking storage in the bed (and mostly dry storage too, which is really nice).  I just go the extra mile and keep things of moderate+ value out of sight (like the socket/tool set).

A buddy of mine picked up a Pelican case (mid-size, like the 1600) with the adjustable liner.  He packed it very well as a 60-second bug-out-box.  Even has a slot to drop a split AR into and a half dozen mags of ammo.  Add some padlocks on the side and it is secure.  Not a cheap route, but it is solid, works well and he has it established as a dedicated solution.

While we are talking expensive solutions, I found these while surfing the web last week.  Rear truck bed boxes that fit between the tailgate and the wheelwell, it will swing out from the side to give you easy access to the contents from the rear of the truck.  I like the idea, that would help to neaten up the storage in the bed of my truck, but can't quite afford that.

I'm enjoying the posts, keep 'em coming.

My best idea is buy specific for the vehicle.

I have a Tuff Box that I've had locked and locked to a truck bed for 20 years.  Had a nice locked Thulle for one of my Grand Cherokees.  It depends really.

As soon as I get a truck bedliner sprayed in the bed of my Dodge, this is what's going in the bed: http://www.4truck-accessories.com/thumbnail.asp?cid=539. Then all my cold weather gear, tools, and bug out gear will be stored in the bed.

I've got a Plano 1819.  I got it for x-mas from my father-in-law after commenting on his box that he keeps in his truck.  I've got a tonneau cover, so couldn't have the box that sits on the bed rails.  Its lockable, but basically just keeps stuff out of sight and organized.

Right now its just a big open box.  I've got to design a way to organize it.

Depends upon what you plan on storing.  If you don't want the contents easily stolen (like firearms), it needs to be locked, have heavy gauge steel walls and be chained/attached to the vehicle.  Cloths, food and inexpensive items can be stored in cheap containers and duffel bags.

That must be the external size.

Outside

Inside (messy, not organized)

Side to side width 34 in at widest point

Front to back 16 inches at widest point

Depth about 11 inches

I haven't had a chance to really think about how I want to organize it, and what will go into it and what will go into my tool-box.  Both stay in the truck all the time unless I'm loading wood or dirt/mulch.

I picked up a Rubbermaid Actionpacker that I saw in another BOV thread.  It's pretty sturdy and so far it is the right size for some stuff.
