I tried doing search and did not see what I was looking for. I will be starting SHTF preparations this year and plan to start stocking a good supply of foods, drinks and other essentials for a long term SHTF scenario. I live in S. Florida and I'm a local Sheriff Deputy. So my main concerns are the obvious problems of hurricanes. But I am well aware of other potential problems such as social unrest, biological threats and the never ending concern of terrorists and extremists. I've been working on weapons & ammo for a few years and my next step is food, water and supplies to keep the family. Here is what I was thinking of, please help out with your ideas.
FOOD- AT LEAST ONE MONTH Several cases of MRE's Stock pile of canned soups Bags or rice Dried fruit Canned fruits & vegetables Snacks such as pudding, granola bars, cereal, nuts Might throw in some Mountain house like products Lots or water SUPPLIES- Batteries Medical??? Several first aid kits, aspirin & other items Propane cooking stove Sternos What else would be good I keep about 2 months of dog food for my 3 German Shepherd at all times, a little extra would not hurt I like to keep about two 5 gal tanks of gas in the garage, Very basic so far, what else would be useful and thank you |

Start with the most likely thing(s)that will happen. In your case, Hurricanes will most likely be the thing to consider first.
Once you deal with the most likely things, you will be well on the way to dealing with less common, but more widespread things. As can be seen in the haiti disaster, the person with a water filter, or at least a few gallons of pure bleach may stand a chance, but those without will likeky get sick and/or die. food is a later consideration, but something to consider. You must assess the most likely threats first, and deal with them insofar as possible. Triage, in reverse. Think about it. |
