We are looking at outback yard of the house we are planning on getting and we noticed that its long. We have a small dog and the town says we can only have a 3ft high fence and I dont trust the fact that anything can jump over it, except my dog. I would like to put lights out there and this is what the fence guy gave us as a quote. I am thinking od 2-3 flood lights that aim back and maybe 1-2 that are in the yard facing the house or towards the street. What do you think. # ft isnt hight enough to keep coyotes out.

well I have lived in alot of places....baltimore in a bad area....IL in a goiod area and NC to name a few........I like the halogen motion lights I bought at lowes ten years ago the best of all I have bought.........a small replacement light vs the big bulbs.....have replaced 2 out of 6 in 10 years.......... Im set up for keeping people out so you cant touch a window without setting off a light........ for your situation trying to protect a small dog Id put up a sodium light that is on dusk to dawn and a motion halogen on each corner.........watch the little dog and buy a big dog that likes the little one so hell fight like hell to protect it.....(roty,GS, anatolian sheperd)......No dog left out at night if you want to keep them safe.

Though a major fan of floods and motion floods, I'm not really of dusk to dawn lights.

Years ago maybe, but these days crooks tend to see them more as better to see with lights than someone may see me lights.

A light clicking on gets them thinking.

imo,   the best motion detectors on the market now are the rabb  STL360 WITH X-10 TRANSMITTER
http://www.rabweb.com/product_line_detail.php?prodline=STL360   there about $95.00 each
the stl360 has a motion aiming down plus one going out, alot better coverage than the home depot/lowes box ones that aim straight out
also with the stl360 with the x-10 transmitter you can get the chime from x-10 to let you know the motion detector has been triggered.
and yes I,m an electrician and this is what i have on my house.
