I have a post on here about Generators already so I apologize. Anyone have any experience with ETQ Generators? They seem to get great reviews from Home Depot and other Websites so before I take the plunge and purpose I want to make sure I'm getting a decent Generator. I'm sure I won't be taking it out much here in Washington but I think it's better to have one than not as im sure you would all agree. But Let me know your opinions if you have had experience with the ETQ's preferable 5250 WATTS or the 6000 WATTS.

Thanks!

Never even heard of the brand, but I am by no means an expert.  FWIW, I do know that Home depot does put up false reviews of products (per a local employee, YMMV).  I guess it is genset day, I count 5 generator threads in the last 24 hours...

If you want my opinion (Thats a big if at this point), I think I would stay away from buying from Depot or Lowes on this.  There are some great websites out there that specialize in this sort of thing, and in my experience they have better prices, almost always free freight, and they have EXCELLENT customer service.  Also, they are exponentially more knowledgeable about generators than the idiot of the week drooling his way through an eight hour, minimum wage shift in a dirty orange apron.
That being said, I bought my generator on craigslist...

The only ETQ generator I'm familiar with is a tiny 1,000 watt model that uses a 2-stroke engine. It's Chinese-made, and sells for cheap at places like Northern Tools and Pep Boys. I suspect that repair parts and service for it would be scarce now, and non-existent 10 years from now.

Buy once, cry once.

I would make sure what ever you buy is not splash lubricated.  I've seen them go TU in as little as 200 hours.   If you buy one that is OHV and has an automotive type oil filter, you're probably GTG.

Edited for poor grammar.

Cheap Chinese gensets.

I've got a 1000W one.  Requires pre-mix of oil with gas.  No big deal, other than I will have to pour out the gas every two years (the current mix was made Feb 08) instead of cycling it through my car.  I won't trust the gas, even with PRI-G for more than a couple of years total.

As far as the set itself, it runs nice and steady.  I run it for five to ten minutes every month or two - most recently last Saturday morning.

I have this unit for charging things and running CFL shop lights in an emergency.  I'll also use it with electric resetting targets in remote locations so I don't have to string hundreds of feet of extension cord.  It was a gift from the fiance one year for Christmas (she's a keeper).

The only problem I had with it was that it was difficult to start last winter, but this spring and summer it's been a one- or two-pull start every time.  Given the seasonal nature of the starting problem, I attribute this to gas issues, not genset problems.

For occasional use ('weekend warrior', if you will), it's served me nicely.
