Can anybody recommend a beam security sensor and alarm. I live way out in the country with a 1/2 mile long driveway. I would like to know when somebody is driving up my driveway with an audible alarm. Wireless is preferred with a 500ft range if possible. Thanks |

not 100% sure but James Wesley Rawles uses them which is the first place I heard of them. I know they have a bury next to road sensor also. I have read of people using four of them to creat a 360 perimeter around a defesive position with the radio sigal it can call you on the handheld radio on the MURS freq and alerty you by channel. (alert channel1 or 2 or 3 or 4) from what I have read. with it being DC you could probably hook it up to a solar cell and small scale battery bank remotely to run longer if needed.
Do you have electricity at the area? if you do you could run a ac-dc converter to go that route. here is another site with the snesors: http://www.murs-radio.com/products.html look at this one it shows a 6 month battery life "MAPS MURS Alert Probe Sensor The MURS Alert Probe Sensor is a long range wireless driveway alarm that will detect vehicles only. The MURS Alert Probe Sensor combines the features of the vehicle sensor drive alert with our MURS Alert technology. The MURS Probe is very reliable and will not give false signals from large animals or other sources. When the MURS Alert detects a vehicle it will send an alert signal to either the M538-BS or M538-HT transceivers. The alert signal will be in spoken English and say "Alert Zone One," "Alert Zone Two," "Alert Zone Three," or "Alert Zone Four". The four alert messages are easily selected at the transmitter so that up to four different zones can be monitored simultaneously. The MURS Alert Probe Sensor transmitter has 5 channels and 38 sub channels to choose from. This will help to eliminate interference from other users. The unit operates on 6 AA alkaline batteries. The battery life should be about six months under most conditions. The channels, sub channels and alert zones are all easily selected by the user. The probe is connected to the transmitter box with 50 feet of direct burial cable. This will allow for a covert installation for the detection of vehicular traffic. The MAPS MURS transmitter's range back to the hand held or base station radios depends upon terrain. An external antenna can be attached to the unit to increase its range if needed. Uses include monitoring driveway/roadway traffic, remote buildings and equipment, etc." These MAPS units send alerts to both the Dakota Alert base or hand held radios. MAPS and MAT units can be used in the same system allowing for flexibility of system design. |

dakota alert with the MURS radio option is one I can think of. http://www.dakotaalert.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21 I see these run on 6 AA batteries. Do you know how long they work before having to replace to batteries? I installed one about two months ago. I put lithium cells in it, so given the number of alerts a day I get, I should get a couple years (1-2 a day). How long they last depends on how many times the radio fires since it is what takes the most power. Buy them in pairs, you get a better price. My first pair was the sensor and portable radio. My next pair will be sensor and base unit. Base units also have an external relay connection so you can add an eternal alarm. |
