So.... TEOTWAWKI happens. The USA is no more. Now there are rules and enforcement. Everyone for their own. As time goes there will be politicians that want to rebuild. So they start forming a new country. They break up the USA into smaller countries. Lets say you live in Texas. Now the 100 square mile area you live in does not want to be apart of this new country.
How do you... 1. Section off your area? 2. Make it know that you want nothing to do with them. 3. What if your area is surrounded by areas that want to be apart and they just decide to include you. Small towns will most likely not want to be involved with big corrupt cities. Who's rules apply? As in Jericho. What if they dont want to be apart of the new country. What if they want to be their own country? How do you protect your town against out side rules and threats? |

ArmyofOne,
This is an interesting senario to play with but the reality is probably something, none of us here would want to admit... We WILL be co-opted into whatever either the majority or the strongest side wants. Now don't get me wrong, we collectively have enough resources to put up one hell of a battle but I just don't see this coming together any better after a collapse than I do now. We have groups that would like to be left alone and make there own rules based solely on the constitution. Such as the "Free State Project" in New Hampshire. Great ideas but not gonna happen at least right now. If you and I and our small town are trying to go against the grain and we aren't the strongest kid on the block, see what I'm getting at? I have gone round and round over issues such as these for 20 years... Besides getting my blood pressure up, I didn't accomplish much. I have come to think of this stuff from the stand point of whatever happens I will try to be in the best place, physically and in my preps to allow me to take care of me and mine. I would certainly cooperate with any outfit in my area that I agreed with but for the most part will expect to be largely on my own. I am in the begginning stages of Permaculture at my BOL and have plans that are underway to make our place as self sufficient as possible, as quickly as possible. I can't see any reason to think that we have a lot of time left. I could be wrong but the downside is I will have more items checked off my to do list. Thoughts? Prepper |

Preppernation,
Lets say you live in New Mexico and have very few neighbors. Bad Guy shows up on your property and wants stuff from you. He doesn't know your there. You defend your stuff with a 308 and now your stuff is safe. Do you contact anyone? If there are no rules who is to say it is right or wrong. Now Im ok with defending my stuff. And in a EOTW seniero I will do it. But if a new country is started and word gets out you defended your stuff and you dont agree with the new gov't. This only ends badly for you. What is the difference in todays times? BG shows up and you defend. You dont tell anyone and no one finds out. Is it right or wrong? I guy I use to do business said that on the border this happens currently. its a dark subject. I dont really have a direction Im going with this but it is all rabbit holes im chasing. Where is the off switch on my brain for a while. |

However as one person stated on here a while back, he was talking about being able to reach out and touch someone 400 yards away. I would hate to think someone just passing through, is going to get capped by some over zealous fool. I think we all know deep down inside what is right and what is wrong. |

We know right from wrong. Im in no way talking about taking someones life for no reason. |

In the Army they generally prefer to engage at the longest range possible. That's not the same thing as randomly shooting at anybody you see. If law and order have broken down, would you prefer to engage enemies when they're 400 yards away or when they're 50 yards away? It's much safer for YOU to do it when they're out there. I've seen people say there's NO need or reason to be shooting at people that far away under ANY circumstances, but I've always disagreed with that. If there are "personal conflicts" after TSHTF(of the kind involving guns) then you will be as much at war as any military has ever been. I know the Survivalist Guru, GunKid insisted that the military and survivalists have nothing in common, but that's just another point of the many I disagreed with him on.
BTW, even the military recommends making sure you identify someone(as a friend or enemy) before you shoot them. |
