I had the displeasure today of being Tboned while driving at 55mph. I am OK my truck is gonna need some help but, running and drivable
after the Adrenilin rush ended and all was right with the world again, one thing I noticed was crap all over the truck
I am fairly neat and organized by nature and nurture..so it was a a bit of a suprise there was all this stuff all over the floor on the truck of of a sudden,
I  was able to visualize though, my GHB snaping my neck from the back jump seat if it hadnt been secured with a seatbelt
I saw my cane thrust into my chest as its normal placement in the cab could have well staked me at 50mph coming to a stop even with the seat belts
I found the jack I failed to secure, up under the brake pedel and my bail out bag of course dumped all over the floor as I failed to zip it up when digging for my wallet to buy coffee that morning..

so,
SECURE the loose stuff in your vehicle as damn near all are dangerous missiles at 40 plus MPH..

Words of wisdom, we all get complacent from time to time... Sad but true and the price is high for not taking the time to do it right. Glad your alright and the truck can be fixed or replaced.

Good wake up call to everybody...

I learned that lesson when I rolled a Jeep.  The spare tire iron is now tied down and secured!

You speak the Truth!

I had a full bottle of scotch smash on the back of my head when I got into a head on wreck about the same speed you were goin.

Thank god it was something frangible and not my spare tire or the jack.

I need to remind myself of that every time I pack my scuba tanks in my Camry.

I would hate to get in a wreck, and have tanks go flying around in my car.

That would be a bad way to go, too...I can see the conversation now:
"How did he die?"
"He was killed by a flying scuba tank."

I recently wrecked a (new ) sports car loaded full of camping gear.
Stuff went everywhere and I was lucky to not get killed by flying inverter/battery boxes, tools, etc.

Lesson learned!
...Like back on the boat: "Rig for sea!"

just Damn,,,I ended up sprawled across the front seat, secure in my belt but looking down to see if all the parts were attached, I see the head of my cane 4" from my chest,,eye opening... it has a fair sized flat grip on it, that jammed to the floor and that handle contacting my chest, even with out penetration would have felt like the hand of god on my heart...

just be careful what we do folks, should SHTF and your flipped or shoved off the road, we want to walk away as soon as we canned not killed by our own carelessness...

Glad you are okay.  I know it's cliche at this point but stuff can be replaced, you can't.  I actually thought of this the other day.  If I were to get hit, would would become a missile inside the cab of my truck.  I have everything pretty much secured but my radar detector, and my EZ pass (toll roads), will probably whack me in the face, as they are both eye level.  I'm going to figure a way to secure them better.

Again, glad you are okay.

As a professional EMT, I can tell you that yes, secondary "projectiles" from within the vehicle can be very harmful.

Even a tissue box traveliong at 55 mph can do some massive damage.

Glad you are alright and even well enough to turn it into a leaning moment for us.

Very good point.  A few years back my dad was hit head on.  MY pops had his saw that was in a metal box/case fly from the back of the SUV to hit his head and the seat.  The seat took most of the blow but just a few inches up and it would have been over.

Thank you for  the reminder.
