The other day I was in a Wal-Mart about 50 miles from where I live.  They had a pretty decent ammo stock, but NO Mountain House freeze dried food.  Yesterday, I was in my local Wal-Mart and they also had a decent selection of ammo, but no Mountain House freeze dried food.  I mentioned it to the sporting goods manager, then I made the comment that people are nervous.  Her reply, "What are people nervous about ?"

i just posting this for people to comment on.

Was there an empty spot of the shelf for the Mountain House stock?

Wal~Mart bases everything on $ sold per square foot of display space...maybe they removed it to make room for Hanah Montana lunch boxes.

From wallyworld's view camping season is over and hunting season is starting.  They are there to make money so whatever sells NOW is what they stock.

If you want to buy MountainHouse out of wally's season you should know where to get it, or order it.  If you want ammo out of wally's season you should know where to get it, or order it.

As far as department managers at wally's; let me just say that they are the sharpest tools that wally got for the minimum+30% that a department manager might get.  Some people at wally are real sharp.  They are people and you can't expect them all to be SF qualified.

so they had ammo, but what kind of ammo?

Our local walmart changed their shelfs, reducing the space for ammo - makes sense as those shelves have been bare since January. They have been restocked on shotgun ammo - and a new load of winchester cleaning supplies - but no pistol ammo or military caliber ammo (223, 308, 30-06)

My wally world is the largest in the US they have 50 checkout lanes with only about 12 of them open at one time 9 of them 20 items of less lanes. They just started carrying MH food you have a pick from $6.95 Chicken and rice or $7.95 Spaghetti with meat sauce or the Ice cream saying that my laptop screen covers more area then the MH foods in my Wal-mart.

Ammo they have just about nothing some 22lr buy only allowed to buy 6 boxes I tried to buy 6 boxes of the Fed 22lr bulk but they would only let me buy one and told me that was all I could get that day. Can't trust what wal-mart people say.

I refuse to shop for ammo at Walmart. Every time I have done so ive been treated with strange looks , questions or some long annoying process of trying to get someone to get the guy with the key to question WHY i want it and give me some opinion I didnt ask for.

The two guys that work the ammo counter at the WM by my house are the opposite, both are great guys, very gun friendly hunters.  One is retired, the other is a desert storm vet about to retire.  I call ahead and see what they have.  Funny thing is, with people who care at their ammo counter, they get 4-5x more ammo than any other WM in the area, I just have to beat the local gunshop owners too it.

Some of the WM folks at my local store are good friendly people who don't mind chatting about the state of ammo sales.  I even had one sell me more than the allowed 6 boxes of 22lr because she knows I'm a shooter and that I'm not going to go resell the stuff.  The shelves are still mostly bare, but the last batch of .223 federal bulk packs stayed on the shelves more than a week and a half.  (I can't tell you how hard it was to resist the urge to snap it all up, but I needed the .22 stuff much worse since my kids shoot, too.)

I noticed the Mountain House in the camping section this summer.  It was also mentioned at my son's scout meeting.  I don't know if it's still stocked, if they have pulled it for the season or for good though.

Thats for one meal right, shoot you can buy a 50 lb bag of rice for under 20.00 now, add some beans, a few large cans of the chicken,
or dak, and some seasoning,  diced onions, garlic salt, and some  (chicken & Beef cubes).  For 50.00 bucks you have enough for a couple of
months at least.  With plenty of rice left over.  Hey when your hungry, a cup of rice is better than bugs.

Should have called for the manager. Our sign says 6-boxes per person , It doesn't say the size of the box matters !!!
