Curious...how do most of you store your "go to" gun?

Are your parts and cleaning kit with tools in the case; stored in a range bag: or some other way?

Do you also store loaded mags and / or ammo with the gun, or in a separate bag?

I keep all of my rifles pistols and shotties in cases; however I do have a few handguns hidden in places and and ar in the closest. I keep all of my mags loaded, not fully, but loaded.

My "go to" AR is under my bed, I have a cleaning kit on my bug out bag.

I have 4 spare pmags loaded to capacity, the others are not loaded.

go to ar (only ar) is in the bedroom most of the time. One loaded 20rounder in it. Bug out bag nearby has basic cleaning supplies and another mag. I usually keep another mag or two loaded with the ammo downstairs but most of my magazines stay empty. If things got really shaky I'd load them up with suitable ammo, but otherwise I prefer to keep them empty. I just load the range ones and go shoot, then leave them till next time. I have a few that are still wrapped that are basically just backup/shtf stock and they stay with some additional ammo.

Since I expect to bug IN it's not an issue, but if bugging out by car all the extra ammo, guns, mags... are in one area and easily loaded. Cleaning and maint. tools are in one tool box and can be grabbed along the way.

I keep my AR's in the safe along with a loaded spare mags, ammo and cases to carry them in.  The only weapon I keep out of the safe is my glock 23 in which I use as both as a CCW and a night stand gun.  I dont like storing weapons out of my safe because of the high number of burglaries that happen in the area and the fact I have a two year old that likes to get into things.

I added hooks to the side of my bed to hang my 870 for HD.

You can get them at Lowes for $8 for both of them.

The denim or other tight woven fabric is very important. It keeps any dead skin or hair out of the action.

My cleaning supplies are stored in a drawer next to the couch in the living room.

I've looked all over Lowe's and Home Depot for those hooks, but have come up empty every time. Do you remember what section they were in? I hope they're not a regional thing.

ETA: All of our pistols are kept loaded throughout the house with loaded spare mags. The 870 is kept cruiser ready with a bandolier sitting next to it and the AR is kept at ready in a closet with a chest rig full of loaded mags and a cleaning kit. There's also a Mini 14 tucked away with some loaded mags just in case I'm in that part of the house and need something fast.

Basically the only things locked up are the 22's, ammo cans and a couple other goodies. And no we don't have any children to worry about.

Wow, You either have a really big safe, or not a very big  collection. I keep all but a couple guns in the safe, all the ammo stacked outside of the safe, and all of the AR mags loaded in ammo cans next to the ammo. My go to guns I keep accessible and loaded with spare mags.

Not being a smart alec but all of the above and then some.

Range bag has a cleaning kit and I keep cleaning kits in their boxes full loaded for a fast grab.

Gun, well my first line Go To is always on me or a hand grasp away.  Unfortunately I've found in life "Wait while I go get my gun" to be very ineffective as a tactical tool.  Though jaded I guess, I do not consider anywhere safe.  Had a badguy walk right in my house one time right behind a guest in the middle of the day.

I don't see any benefit of a mag fed weapon unless you have a spare mag.  Loaded mags, I keep in mag pouches and keep the mag pouches in my tactical vest loaded.  I keep a rifle mag pouch loaded upstairs and down and pistol mag pouches with the guns.  I don't go crazy on this because if I see myself going over 4 mags, I'm not the US Army so grabbing a bandoleer a more versatile option than too many loaded mags than I can carry.

Ammo I keep in ammo boxes labeled for their various uses from stripper clip/loose for range use to SHTF bandoleer stripper clipped.  That's in addition to my normal ammo cans of stash for regular shooting.  Long-term grab and growl  I keep a mixed caliber and quantity in a large motor crate for a fast load and bug out.  (That and it helps in keeping things organized.)  Once a year, I change these load outs around ammunition I have gotten use to and gun changes.

My favorite mag pouch is a nylon velcro four mag with shoulder strap.  Its real handy for a fast grab throw over your shoulder and go.   Pistol mags, my favorite is a nylone velcro double high cap mag belt type and shotgun a shotgun loop belt.  My revolvers I go real old school with cowboy belts with ammo loops.  I'm not as hard pressed on those since the guns are typically not that accessible and not my first choice.

If I had to give it a how much max in the shortest amount of time, it would be 8 AR mags with bandoleers a total of around 400 rifle rounds and 100 pistol rounds.  I guess anything above that on a grab, I figure I will either not survive to need it or can't carry it anyway.

All this despite its been decades since I've had to grab a gun and rush out the door to go rescue someone from something.  You never know though.  Its happened before even if it is a fox in the hen house.

I have a separate 'Ammo/Mag' bag that sits next to the BOBs..Already loaded with mags, ammo, cleaning kit and mag loaders... Should the SHTF we would grab the rifles and handguns and that bag has all we need.

I know, I do have a small collection......you dont have to remind me

2 AR's, a glock 23, and a mossburg 590.......I have alot or catching up to do.  On the bright side to this, if there was a SHTF where I would have to bug out, I could grab all my weapons load em in the truck and go and not have to make a painfull descsion of leaving anything behind.

for all you guys who have the "new" not loaded mags, might outa test those mags before the SHTF, it wouldn't be to good to find out they didn't work properly.
I keep all 30 of my AR mags loaded (28 rds per mag) and all my pistol mags loaded (7 rds in a 8 rd mag and 6 rds in a 7 rd mag) all have been test fired to insure they function.
I always have my 45 at arms reach and the AR loaded and at ready. Nope no kids in the house.

I have "assault" cases for each of my go-to guns.  Each is loaded with six loaded mags (28per).  Except the M1 Carbine case which has 2 -15s and 4 -30s (downloaded 1 for 15s, 2 for 30s).

One's in the trunk, the rest in safes, loaded with empty chamber.

Spare oil, minimal cleaning gear, and spare parts in cases.  Spare parts = small parts plus spare bolt assembly.

John

ETA:

If it's really bad:

Also have a med. Alice pack in trunk with 8 spare mags, loaded currently, plus chest rig, plus an additional 150 or so rounds packed 28 per in freezer bags or on strippers.

At home, there's a nylon "Zombie Outbreak" bag with 16 mags (currently unloaded) plus 600+ rounds, in freezer bags mostly, although there's more in cardboard still.  Also with chest rig and additional parts and AR specific tools.

And for the holy shit!, there's two large ammo cans, "grenade" sized?, each with approximately 1500 rounds.

Any more than that I'm going to need my group friends to come over with a deuce and a half to do some heavy lifting.

All of it is neatly packed in either nylon or in cans, ready to load to evacuate as necessary.

If something happens to my main stash, I've probably got close to 10K prepositioned at other locations hither and yon, ready for me.

Wow, I have 2  rifles 1 handgun, 50 mags, 4000rds of ammo, in various ammo cans in my very small safe.   I keep my shit locked, of course I
don't live in a neighborhood that warrants sleeping with my gun. I keep my kbar under my bed, which if someone enters my bedroom, that's about all I will be able to muster, they will never see it coming however. I suspect my Lab will be dead first, she sleeps on guard.   I have heard and read about too many idiots that left their weapon out, only for children to get a hold of them and cause injury or death.   Besides if they are stealing my stuff its all or nothing...good luck getting it out... But I believe in due diligence, if someone stole my loaded firearm because I did not secure it, and caused death or injury to someone, it would bother me.   Besides, no asshole is going to sue me for negligence.

I would move before I lived in a neighborhood that I had to sleep with a gun loaded under my bed.  It may come to that, but not yet.

With the exception of my daily carry/bump in the night gun, all of my firearms are locked up in the three safes.

I have Otis cleaning kits in my GHB, car, range bag etc. A few loaded pistol and AR mags in my GHB, and a lot more in fat 50 ammo cans and a chest rig secured in the ammo locker. In a bugout situation I'll grab whatever guns and ammo I need and go. Also have a modest stockpile of ammo, mags, and replacement parts at the camp (BOL). My primary reloading outfit is kept at home (Dillon 550b), and the secondary setup at the camp (Dillon Square Deal 'B' and assorted low-tech single stage rigs). Since I don't have enough room to bring my entire collection with me, everything except for my "go to" guns are kept with BCGs or other parts removed to render them useless should they be stolen. The last thing I want is to have a stolen AR or FAL used to kill a cop.

I found them back where the plastic shelving is at Lowes (plastic filing cabinets, book shelves, etc)

You could probably use bicycle hooks.

My HD pistol is in a fire box locked under the bed with spare mag and flashlight. My BO or SHTF rifle is in the safe in a "tactical" case. It has a loaded 20 rounder in it with chamber empty. Aimpoing M4 is on and in the large zipper pocket is a three mag bandolier with loaded mags. There is a GI cleaning kit in that pocket as well. I can grab it and go and not worry about it. I would like to second that if you have firearms in the home, you really should make some kind of attempt to secure them, but to each their own.

Night stand is SA 1911 and Surefire G2 LED. In the safe are all the rest of the guns along with my BUG Out Vest.

I keep four or five loaded magazines on the top shelf of the gun safe for each rifle and there's one in the mag well of my go-to rifles.

I also have a web pouch with eight loaded 30-round AR magazines and there's a handful of bags of ammo sitting on top of the cabinets with ammo on stripper clips and a couple of spare magazines.

The 12-gauge has a shoulder stock with eight shells and I have one of those bandoleer shoulder straps with about 20 shells on it.

a couple rifles here and there in the house hanging on a screw, next to another screw that has a bando of mags for said rifle

pistols stashed in the cars in CCW holsters with a mag pouch and mags

few pistols/mags in the BOB, some just stashed about

few ars stashed in closets at family's houses for when I'm visiting with a unopened can of LC ammo for each and a bando of loaded mags-just because

Usually when I'm out in the shop-safe is open with a couple ready to go

I also have a few pistols stashed throughout the stored items in small pelican cases.

Overall they are all over, and the safe is full of the big stuff.
