Here's the deal.

I just moved all of my bottled water from one spot in the basement to another.  I've always had it sitting on the cement floor and haven't worried about it.  This new spot (under the stairs) I found that when down there long enough I smell cat piss.  This must be from my long dead cat from years ago.  This spot has been cleaned and mopped but apparently not good enough.

So, my concern is that I have these cases of water sitting right on the cement and all that is between them and the water is the outer plastic wrapper of the case, then the cardboard of the case and then the bottle and then the water.

Should I worry about those cases on the bottom picking up the cat piss into them?

Will that leach into those bottom cases of water?

If so, what would make a good cheap barrier?

I'm hoping for straight honest answers and not guesses, give me some first hand experience accounts if you can please.

Hopefully it's fine as is?

Thanks.

Sorry, I spit out my cigar into my lap. Had to put the flames out.

You could offer the bottom cases to Waldo, he has a small fire to put out.

Other than that, your water is fine - Not that a little cat piss will hurt you anyways.

umc if you're worried about ancient cat piss leaching up into the bottled water, shouldn't you, by the same logic, be worried about the water leaking out?

Mop with baking soda (to eliminate the urine smell).  Problem solved.

Put it on a pallet.

I'd taste it and see how that goes.

Of course, dibs!!

IMO most things stored on a concrete floor should be put on sleepers.... it dosnt take much.... 3/4 of an inch.  Of course water is probably about the only thing I would store directly on the floor so go figure.  Condensation and moisture equals mold....  air circulation is good.

Disclaimer....  I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night!

I'd only worry about leaching from the plastic bottle into the water if the water is stored for years.  Anything that's not a gas on the otherside of the bottle isn't going to be an issue.  Unless of course the bottles are stored in vats of cat piss.

Oh I got ya but it just seems that this topic is talked about and there are folks who believe that it's possible so I just wanted to make sure I was ok.

Does water leach OUT from the bottles (i.e. wet spot on the concrete)?  If not, why would you be concerned about another fluid leaching IN to your bottles?
