Well, now that I got the generator I feel a lot better but my focus is now moving to water filtration.

I'm thinking of picking up the Katadyn Hiker Pro and some spare filters as well as some carbon filters for it.  Thoughts?  Is this a good way to go or is there something better?

Also, I want to hand pound a well as I understand that I can do so and hit water in about 15 feet.  That being said, if I put in a well couldn't I use that water for not only flushing toilets but filter it and drink it as well?  If that's the case wouldn't that give me pretty much a limitless supply of water and no real need to continue to stockpile cases of water?

What's everyone have to say??

If your well has water and you filter it with a $ 150 RO system for potable needs, you should be GTG.

Could you give me some more info please?

Thanks.

RO is a Reverse Osmosis system.

Google is your best source of info.

If you have a Home Depot or something similar in your area, they will have what you need.

The Katadyn filter works very well.
Although it’s capable of filtering just about anything, I suggest running the water through cloth to get the big stuff out first.  This will extend the life of the filter.
As far as the well goes, I can only suggest having the water tested.   It may cost you a bit to test, but it’s cheaper than stocking up on Iodine or other treatment.

Not so. Call any culligan or soft water business and they can test it for free.

I've been googling and will continue to do so but I just thought that you all would have thousands of replies to a topic of "water filtration questions"

Check Sawyer.

They've got a fantastic bucket/filter set up that I bought a short time ago.

There was quite a bit about it here on this forum a few months back.
