Went to work this morning, seen fire trucks and helicopters all over the place. Found out a couple blocks from the office there was some company that had some ammonia leak. You could smell it in the air, it was really strong. I decided to go to work in another part of the county, lol. But the big thing was traffic, they blocked off a couple major roads and you shouldve seen the ppl freaking out. People were doing all kinda crazy U turns and driving over medias, it was kind of funny and sad in a way. If there was ever a major thing like nuc plant go bust, this place would be one hella place to be. I would either try to get out early or just sit and wait it all out. No reason to get stuck in the hordes of ppl acting a fool. Anyways, that was my excitement for the morning. By 10am or so it cleared all up.

IF and when I ever get my BOV the way I want it, Ill have a portable scanner in there, ppl dont realize how beneficial it can be. I know there was internet scanner site during NOLA and Hurricane Katrina, it was wild to listen to the National Guard and stuff that was going down.

I spent a summer working in the maintenance and engineering section of an icecream plant. They used pure ammonia for their cooling systems, some small instant freeze rooms were chilled to -80 C. They had oil traps they would drain from the cooling system every once in a while and it stunk awful. The engineering section was trained on how to deal with leaks and trained the local FD on it. In the event of a major fire or leak the FD (supposedly) would not respond due to the possibility of explosion. However, the mixture of ammonia to oxygen had to be just right to cause this condition. In fact, to find leaks they used these sticks they lit on fire. The smoke would change color in the presence of ammonia. One of the workers had scars up and down the one side of his body where a value leaked while he was closing it and sprayed him and froze his clothes and skin off.

Speaking of SHTF, I will not forget the Hurricane Rita GOOD that I chose to skip. 100 degree heat; interstates jammed from Houston to San Antonio and Dallas, no gas, no money at ATMs, no fucking way to get anywhere. People parking beside the road, kids crying. Fuck me!!

Houston took a different tact for Hurricane Ike, and almost no one north of town left. The problem was we were without power for 14 days, so it pretty much sucked for everyone.

I have talked to many neighbors and friends to see if they have made preps for the next hurricane. It seems that, after the power came back on last September, they put their head down and started eating grass again.

God help us if we really have a true SHTF where the food runs out or is contaminated or a pandemic hits us or we run out of oil. The fabric of society will unravel fairly quickly.
