How do you properly recharge 2-12v batteries while connected Parallel?

told i had to disconnect each battery and recharge that way and not while connected together.

So is there a way to recharge while they are still connected together?

No you dont need to disconnect,

Here is everything you need to know.

Voltage remains the same in all parts of a parallel circuit so just connect the charger like normal.

when i connect the charger does it matter if i connect to the positive and negative on the same battery or should i connect positive on one battery and negative on the other?

Also when i wire my inverter should i connect to the positive and negative on the same battery or should i connect positive on one battery and negative on the other?

thanks

You don't  - charging forces electrons THROUGH the cell.  Two in parallel gives them an alternate path and it's not exactly the most fruitful process. Typically the better cell charges more, and the weaker cell charges less.

Now when done charging, you have a stronger and a weaker cell in parallel. They will run each other down in no time.

Yep, if you can rig a switch and chage one group at a time, it would be 'technically' better.

Variations between two parallel banks can create some confusing self discharge issues and loss of efficiency. That said, I'm planning on paralleling 2 banks of 2 each golf cart batteries soon.

But thinking abt this more, I may use some RV type high current latching solenoid relays to isolate one bank from the other, but how to charge them from one solar charge controller when unattended?.

The real solution is to use some bigger batteries like the Surettes in another topic, but that gets VERY expensive.

How people charge there batteries equally when they have multiple batteries in a battery bank where they all we be equal?

my next question is should i put insulation around the batteries?

here is what my battery box looks like

It is not real big it is just a start. I have 250 amp hrs

As an experiment this year, I buried 2 golf cart batteries in some of those Christie boxes you can find at Home Depot and insulated them and also on the top. They have been covered with snow all winter. Outside temps got to around 10 below and they were kept charged with solar and have been fine as far as I can tell.

You would have been wiser from a performance POV to have used 2 golf cart batteries instead of the 2 Marine 12 volt types in parallel.

Been there done that and switched to GC bats for a LOT better performance.
