Do you guys prefer legs on the bottom or no?

Legs are obviously better for outdoor fire cooking, but no legs are better for the oven, right?

I will be using this mostly camping so i am thinnking i will go with the legged version.

Any thoughts?

thanks!

We have both, and rarely use the no-leg version. My wife makes a mean peach dump cake in a dutch oven. Find a good cookbook and you'll be very pleased with what you can make.

my wife does not like dutch ovens, regardless of the setup, but I still give her one every now and then

LOL, I missed the joke at first!

I have 2 camp style and one home style.  I can do without the legs while camping if I had to, simply put 3 or 4 same size stones in with the coals to set the pot on.  A domed lid in lieu of the flanged lid would not be that good for campfires.

ok, thanks for the suggestions.  I got an 8" and a 10" with legs.  I thought about the 12,but since it is just my wife and I it seemed like 2 smaller ones would be better.  I got the lid lifter too.  they didn't have the lid stand, I will have to find that somewhere else.  they came with cookbooks so we are going to give it a try tomorrow night.

thanks again for the help guys!

I have one w/ legs. It's great for outdoor cooking. When I use it in the house oven, I just put a sheet pan down on the rack and place  the oven on the pan. That way the legs don't get hung up with the wire rack.

Don't sweat it if you have the "bean pot" variety without the lip.  Just make a temporary ring out of foil...

I ran across one the other day that looked like a steel well casing that had a bottom welded in and had a very tight fitting lid.  The lathe turning marks were faint but could be seen where the weld was turned down.  Pretty interesting....
