Check out this awesome cave home for sale. If I could afford it its not too far from work and it would make a great shelter from what you can see in the pictures.

Just a few miles down the road from me.
Too bad I am not in the market for a new house right now.

He is trying to line up financing. He got a 5 year balloon note to build it and expected to get a loan when he was done.

He is setting up an LLC to hold the note and the members of the LLC would put up money and carry the note. He needs only 85K to keep it.

He has my pledge of 300.00 dollars to the loan. It would be just like a bank loan except we the members would own the bank and there would be only one mortgage issued.

ETA : That cave in back is a preppers dream. By the way he has 100 drop head drums in there. What's his screen name?

His Website with all the construction pics.

So, they can't get a 25% LTV loan, needing $85K on a property with a Certificate of Occupancy. Both "work from home"?
What is the rest of the story?

Reminds me of the guy who was refurbishing the old Atlas missile silo so he could live in it.  Pretty cool.

Man,.. waaayyy cool.

I hope this guy can come up with the financing.  It would be a shame to have him lose his dream home that he worked so hard for

Guess he should have made better decisions before starting...

That eBay auction looks more like a plea for donations, same as the Yahoo interview.
No way he will sell the house for only 300k.

Well the way it sounds to me was it wasn't that he didn't have the income.. as in can't afford it... the problem is no banks will finance him...  that would suck, is he truly has the means to pay, but banks won't finance due to tightening the criteria...

It's cool enough, but for $300k I'd rather have a smaller house and  ALOT more land. I suspect he is having trouble getting a loan because of it's unconventional nature. I wanted to build earth sheltered and no bank locally would even discuss it.

85k I think I could round that up if I tried hard enough.

I wiuld think it an ideal house to loan money for. The owner Loves it, It won't depreciate in value very much, and it's very energy efficent.
