Hey gang... if I have food grade buckets with the rubber gaskets (I got a bunch from a bakery) .. can I put food in there with some O2 absorbers and without using the mylar ? What exactly is the purpose of the mylar ? ... I want to store pasta and rice that I buy in bulk at sams ... is it best to leave them in the bags they came in and put in a bucket.. take out of bags and put directly in the bucket ... or take out put in mylar then in the bucket... with o2 absorbers in each case.. whats the best way that will ensure longevity ?
Thanks for the knowledge ! Camm |
| mylars provide an o2 barrier if sealed properly. food stored in buckets, even with gaskets will eventually have O2 infiltration as the buckets are porous. I've also heard that rodents can "smell" foodstores through the plastic buckets and can't if food is stored in mylars and placed in the buckets. (although I've not seen any proof to this claim) |
