From the reading that I'm doing it seems that a number of the members here have off site locations where they could bug out to.  How far away from your home are they?  I'm looking at some options in the two hour area and I'm wondering if that is farther then would be reasonable.

Blue Lines on the map present a problem.

There is a major one between me and my BOL.

When we started our BOL, I was two hours away and my family 3.5 hours away.  I made it every weekend and my family did after construction started.

Yes, Our BOL was also a get away and both a hunting as well as fishing location.

Having a location you really enjoy staying at makes a world of difference on your motivation to progress on the site.  Sometimes these projects take years and seem to never end.  The more you love it, the better you are.

Mines about a 2.5 hour drive 125 miles or so.  One thing to keep in mind when choosing distance to major population centers.  No matter how well concealed in a major ShTF some idiot urbanite will stumble into your AO.  I prefer a minimum 100 miles.  I also understand depending on location this is not doable for a lot of people.

It isn't just a measure of distance, but also terrain, demographics, and population density.

If you cant get to it in an emergency, its too far. (in a reasonable amount of time to make it useful, or escape whatever impending doom.)
