I was reading some article about some rustic guy in india or something & it said that he brushed his teeth w/ ashes & @ 85 he still has all his teeth.
Is there something to this? I'm not fixing to throw away my colgate but it would be nice to know. In SHTF oral hygene is very important you know... Anyother neat uses for ashes? |

I've also heard of chewing a piece of charcoal...the real kind from a bit of wood burnt nearly all the way...not the barbecue briquette kind. Ashes are also good for fertilizing gardens IIRC. I save some from the wood stove for the wife's veggies. |

Ashes have been used for very fine polishing work*. Also, since ashes are used to make lye, it'd seem that they also have some kind of detergent properties.
*Cigarette ashes were used in WWII to polish ball bearings and bearing raceways in a refurbishing shop in Addis Ababba–– from "Project 19: A Mission Most Secret." |
