Check out this Link...

What size honda generator are you talking about? Good luck getting your uncle up. The easiest way to

get the fridge running is with an extension cord.

Well the big thing is how long do you run the generator on the freezer?  do you run it for 2 hours and shut it down for 2?  obviously you would want to avoid using the generator 24/7 for 3 days from a wear and tear point of view.  or am i wrong?

One on, two off would be better.  IF the box is fairly cold in the beginning this is plenty of time.

It always amazes me when people sit there and say I have no power my food is going bad.

Look outside, ice and snow is great for keeping food cold.

Ain't MI cold in S. Texas this time of year. It'll be a balmy 85 in harlingen, might wanna wear some sunscreen if you'll be outside.

How far away does he live? Is there anyone close to him (location) that could either stay with him, and help him keep the place warm, maybe help with getting food outside, or in coolers? Check in on him regular? Or some one who could take him in until power comes back on?

A simple Coleman 1850 Powermate generator will serve his immediate needs.  Take it along with enough gas to get him by for 10 days.  Mine will run for about 5-6hrs on one tank of gas.  If I recall correctly it holds about 1.5 gallons of gas.

Convert it over to propane after the power is restored.

Take an extra quart of oil too!

belt-fed, if it's below freezing where your uncles at, then tell him to fill 2 liter bottles about 3/4 full, put 'em outside until they freeze solid and then put them in the fridge and freezer.  3 o r 4 will keep food for a while.  a friend did this for 3 days, rotating in bottles as others thawed.

props for taking care of your family.

We have converted two Honda EU2000i generators with kits from Generator salesConversions I have two 6500 kits sitting in the shop waiting for my friend to bring the generators over for conversion.

Their conversions are easy to install and allow you to use all three fuels.
