Someone mentioned that a website was selling 20 M44's for $49.95 each.  Anyone know where to find these?

I think he means an M44 Mosin-Nagent, and yes they are very cheap.  The local gun store carries them for $89.  I shot one this weekend.  Not a bad gun to shoot.  Could be a good choice if your budget is very limited.

the guns may be inexpensive, but the ammo isn't anymore.

IO has 91/30's for $1100 per crate of 20.
Works out to $55 per.

I have two that shoot 3" @ 100y and 6" @ 200y (sights only go down to 200M, so hold 4-6" low at 100y)..... great "truck/Jeep" guns!  If I run out of ammo, I can still execute a vertical or horizontal butt stroke series with their bayonets!
A 100 rds. of Privi brass ($39), a pound of 2400 ($17) & a Lee 180 gr. .312" bullet mould ($18), will keep you shooting a long time at about .06 cents a round in components.
Designed in 1891 as a black powder cartridge, 7.62X54R is the longest serving military cartridge in the world...

I know where you are coming from (2+ years ago was the heyday for cheap x54R ammo), but I would hardly rate it as cost prohibitive, esp for surplus ball ammo, for stocking up for emergency prep purposes...

Man, I don't want to pay $79.95 though, I like the $49.95 price!
