How long does fuel keep for? say if I wanted to fill up some cans and keep them stored for a rainy day, how long would it be safe to use. Thanks, Tom |

if your going to store fuel i would do a couple of different things. first make sure your can seals well. if it doesnt the life span of the fuel will rapidly decrease. i would recommend the steel cans with rubber gaskets. second buy the highest octane fuel you can. it will last longer than the low octane fuel. third it helps if you put in a fuel additive (like stabil) when you plan on storing. it will prolong the life of the fuel. now as far as how long it will store i would say a year or so. after that i would start replacing it with fresh fuel and using the old stuff in your car. just make sure you mix some fresh fuel with the old b4 you use it! |

From what I put on the other thread: In a vented can depending on conditiions 6 months is pushing it untreated, and a year treated. In a well sealed, unvented can I have kept it 2 years untreated no issues, over 3 treated. A truely sealed can makes all the difference. If the lighter componets of the fuel cannot evaporate, the fuel won't go bad nearly as fast. If your cans are truely sealed, you shouldn't smell gas around them at all. If you smell gas, it is evaporating. For long term storage: Sealed > Vented Metal > Plastic (except think plastic like MFC's) Treated > Untreated |
| so would these fuel cans work well for the job? how would i go about getting new gaskets if needed. would they be at Ace or somewhere like that? |
Those work great but but I sell the same ones for less, and I have the better nozzles. [/shameless plug] |

Wow Garand_shooter I just checked out your link and I want one of your gas spouts --they seem alot better than the cheap metal one I have been using. I bookmarked your page and when I feel like I have some xtra cash to spend I'll get one of those plus some gaskets |
