I see a lot of people talk about living off the land in a TEOTWAWKI.I see a lot of talk about stocking up.I do some canning and wonder if many of you are taking into account that you may have to can your own food and have the pressure canner ,jars ,rings and lids ,as well as seed stored to raise food.m

Actually since you mentioned it, I even store my long term storage dry goods in mason jars.

As I need to use that food while I'm growing fresh, it will free up the mason jars for canning.

since we're talking TEOTWAWKI, you might as well throw in an extra gasket and other parts for your canner.

Invention of necessity my friend.  I've been married 35 years.  Its amazing how much junk you can acquire in that time and how little space you have.

Shop wally world and Big lots st the end of the season you can get some good deals on left over canning supplies. I bought 4 cases of bands and lids from wally world at 1/2 price, already have several hundred jars not counting the one that are full.
we also keep a couple of spare gaskets and weights for the canner.

I have found if you will wash the gasket in warm soapy water after each use and after every 3rd or 4th use coat it lightly with veggie oil it will last a lot longer (it's amazing what you can learn if you read the instructions that come with stuff, yep I know it is a man thing, I never read most of the stuff either).

ETA: I also store my seeds in mason jars.
