I'm looking for a generator to run my freezer, furnace, and water pump.  The freezer is newer so it is energy star rated.  The water pump and furnace are the same age of the house; about 20 to 25 years old maybe. The catch is it has to run on LP.  Any suggestions?

What type of pump is it... sump pump? well pump?  other?

I have a feeling that, unless it's a plain old boring sump pump, that the draw is going to be huge.  You should see a plate on the side of the pump that has the electrical requirements.

Here is a chart that will give you a rough idea of what you should plan on.  Base all of your requirements on surge wattage, and leave a little cushion above that, unless you plan on being 100% super diligent about not having multiple appliances power on at the same time.

I have a 3500W generator (4000W surge) that I plan on only using for a fridge, furnace fan, and a few essential CFL lights and battery charging during an extended outage.  My plan is fine, so long as the furnace and fridge NEVER start at the same time.

Edit:  Just saw that you're planning on running it on LP.  Champion has a bigger model that comes set up for LP from the factory.  Their RV model that I bought has hundreds of pages of positive reviews on RV.net

If you're buying a conversion kit for a non-LP generator, figure about a 10% loss over rated power from gasoline.  I can't remember where I saw that, but I'm sure someone will chime in with more accurate info.
