| Picked up 4 more chickens (chicks/pullets) at the big flea market in Lucasville Ohio. Found a Camelbak Ambush/ 3 liter at a surplus shop for $15.00, got that and a set of molle pack straps to try to adapt to one of my Alice packs. Put up more shelves in the pantry, added more dry goods. 45acp is getting almost impossible to find around here, that's getting aggrevating. |

Checked another Wallyworld for ammo. Slim and none.
Mayor and I made another seed run yesterday. I spent about $55 and replaced what I've lost in my fugged up seed flats. Mayor bought 2 more big rolls of the white heavy greenhouse plastic. I'll get my greenhouse recovered in one big piece of plastic this week and begin replanting my seed flats. Piss. With one big piece covering my greenhouse frame it'll be less likely to blow all to shit. Won't have any corners or crevices for wind to get into and inflate it. Warmer weather so I can get all my sheet replanted. Turbine work finally hitting high gear so I'm calling around looking for gainfull employment. I smell a fitty in the future...... Flea market today, Mayor will be here shortly. I need to see if Truman found the box of bobbins for the 25 year old White sewing machine I bought from him last week for $20. Yeah, I sew. Since I was about 10. I can prolly sew better than most ladies. I don't do dresses but I can hand sew a good shoulder rig or do nice, tooled, hand sewn leather goods too. Still got all my antique tools from 1980 when I almost did it for a living. I have a couple of the "awl for all" tools but prefer the old method of hand sewing. Putting needles at the ends of the heavy cord. Almost indestructible stuff. Itching real bad to burn some ammo. Might get out and do some shrooming and powder burning this afternoon. Should be close to 70 today. Itching from chiggers too. Hoping my trigger parts are in for the fucked up SA M1A so I can make it right. ETA: the little gunshow in Clinton showed ammo still going up. As much as $28 for 550 .22's.......... 40 for 50 9mm hp. Wolf was $187 for 500 of .223........ |

Worked on garden the last few days.
The local gun shop was out of *every pistol caliber* in ammo, for the very first time - I put a down payment on a 12 guage shottie with my weekly ammo money, a brand new M 1897 knock-off, combining my historical interest with an all-round 12 guage. Recieved 2 M 15 gas masks, 20 NATO filters!!! (they sent them along as a free gift, I have to figure out if they are any good or not, the filters that came with the masks are brand new) and 12 MRE entrees, and a Red Cross emergency radio. Step one in upgrading the comm situation. |

Bought a 3rd AR to replace the two that fell off my boat. Hopefully this one will make it through the weekend. I like to use them as paddles with the A2 stock attached.
It's actually just a complete AR lower, but its a start. I now have an AR for myself and each of my brothers (no on else seems to care but me...so I'm stuck arming the family. I have an AK for my dad). |

ordered led replacement bulbs for standard flashlights ordered an IR flashlight to use as an illuminator for my gen 1 night vision. I'm not expecting much, it was $5 so if it works great if not oh well bought 10 ounces of silver washed some of the tupperware type containers I got at walmart a while back. made in the usa too |

Since last update:
Organized ammo and got list what I'm short on. Surprisingly I'm good on pistol ammo and out of shotgun ammo. Picked up a HD 870 Bought a water filter for pack Tried some MRE's with son, trying to figure out which to order Got 2 55 Gal barrels for storage, not the best idea. Wife flipped out and I had to say they are trash barrels for my shop to save face. (read as my wife gripped and i caved to she'd not get made for more "prep" w/o discussing with her first) Side job last week, made about a grand. Putting that toward a tiller and some new tires for wife's SUV. Got my spare car running again, swapped heads and exhaust and put a better intake on it. Never know when Mad Max shows up and we gotta haul right.... :) Was tired of it sitting and another project undone. That portion is finished. Built a rotating can store and posted how to here on ARFSF Been practicing my shooting more with pistol. Still not the greatest with it, but am getting better. More comfortable with long gun. Found out the friend who has HAM license and several radio's uses it for storm tracking and nothing more. Also found out that they think storage of food is humorous. Kinda got my feelings hurt for some reason. Either way I'll be able to get me a radio and license with his help. Planted some in the garden, was too early. We'll replant this weekend. Been saving $$ like crazy on pantry food thru coupons and sales lately. My short term food storage is complete finally. I So my goals of water storage and ST food are done. I can improve on them as time goes by but I have a working setup for my family (there are always exceptions to this and reason why I could fail) I am working now toward a decent riffle, learning to fish (yes I know the basics but its been 20 years since i did much of it), and start LT food storage. I did finish some other side jobs, projects and honey does that have been lingering as well. |

Been tromping the woods with sidearm and M1A. Never practiced offhand. Not doing too bad. Minimal ammo shot, Maybe 25 rounds in last week. Ordered 6 20 round mags and sent MO yesterday. Looking for 800 or better yards so I can step out with the new Rem 700 and get the elephant gun out and brush off the cobwebs, 300 winmag, Savage 112 bull. Usta be able to pick a tick off a dog at 600 years ago. "Usta". Extra 2 hours tromping yesterday looking for "Speckles", hugely pregnant goat. 2 hours looking for her today too. Told the Mayor to get her and another preggers into a smaller penned area across road tonight, whole lot easier to find. He agreed. Couple hours digging with his help, I'm down 20' for underground coal caves, not open yet, shit. 5 hard days so far. Most last fall. Lots of old coal mines around here, all are sealed up. Told the Mayor I'd trade him 2 for 1 if he'd help. He's got a coupla days worth of fence repairs that need to get done. Got out my 4 UHF Motorola industrial radios. Looks like maybe 3/4 mile, maybe a bit more, straight line in the woods. Not real impressed. Real handy looking for goats though. Rounded up more of my reload equip from the 5th wheel. Gettin the bottle packin itch. Checked with man I bought supplies from 2 weeks ago, he's cleaned out till next week and no clue what he might get then.  Came across my first Morrel shrooms today. Honeyspot. About 2 quarts worth, biggest were about 3 1/2" heads about 2" in diameter. Cool. I think I went once 35 years ago with a freind, we found coupla handfuls.
These are kinda special times. Even in all the bullshit storms coming there are blessings. Found my first ever deer antler yesterday. Old one, prolly walked past it 3 times in last 6 months. Pretty ate up. Found my first ever deer head today, spike about 8" long. Right in the middle of the 6'X6' patch of about 5 giant shrooms. These were tan in color, kinda bland raw. Sent them home with the Mayor, he'll get Mrs. Mayor to cook them for us tomorrow. Gonna re till some of the gardens maybe tomorrow, not sure what the Mayor has planned, never can tell with him. Oh yeah. fences in the morning. That'll get my ass outside and doing something. It's easy to get lethargic or despondent. With all the negative shit happening. I try to keep him going and he's keeping me motivated too. I made new mounts for one of his big forked buckets he's wanted done since I met him. 'Ol boy flipped me $100, that was cool. Didn't ask and didn't expect it. Was just doing him a favor, about 6 hours of fab and welding. Works good, he cleaned out one of his big goat barns with it yesterday. Think I'll watch 5th element tonight, Fuk the networks. ETA: Garden is doing good. Alot of stuff I was giving up on is coming up the last coupla days. Even red beans I planted too deep a month too early. Haven't started replanting my seed flats yet. Need to cut some greenhouse plastic and get that going in next few days. |

- PIcked up a 100 Round Value Pack of .223 from Wall World for $40.
- Picked up a box of .308 to slowly add to my stash for the Rem 700 I bought in Dec. - Spent a couple of hours at the Range with the AR today. I was gonna shoot the G19 but I could not find any 9mm FMJ anywhere on the way. I've gotta add some training ammo to my 9mm stash. - Worked out 3 times this week. Cardio and Weights each time. - Picked up 2 PMags at a Gun Store today by the Range. They were selling them for $18 apiece and I thought I would try a couple since I have never used them before. They feel alot more durable than the USGI Mags. |

Did some 'horse trading' and picked up a 20'' Colt upper with a DPMS lower (weird combo, but it works and the Colt parts look primo). Actual Cost for me was about 1/3 of what I could buy one for, so good score. Plus no taxes and FTF sale, so that is always good. and got 5 boxes of ammo.
First trade on Craigs list, and it went well. down side is I had to rearrange the safe to make room for it. |

500 rounds of 22lr from Wal-Mart. Thats all they had other than the CCI boxes. Puts me at 6,000+ of that caliber. Goal is 10k. Is it just me or is 22lr the new 223?
Seriously - I havent seen any 223 in 2 months but Im now going on a month I guess since i saw more than a box or 2 of 22lr's. |

Raided Wally's earlier in the week, found some more Sluggers, grabbed 'em. Everything else was pretty pathetic, no 9s, no 45s, no 00Buck. The only 22lr was the plastic CCI 100 packs, no 550 paks at all.
Played hookie from work yesterday afternoon, went to the range practiced stopping drills with the 1911. Two to the chest, one to the head. Zero'd the 590A1 for the 1 oz. Sluggers. Started with POI low, adjusted up, a bit more, and BLAM, nice and flat Zero from about 25 yards out to 50 yards. Drops about 2" at 75 yards, and about 5" at 100 yards. After final elevation adjustment, fired 2 from a sand bag at the 25 yard target, dead center sternum area, and the holes touched each other like a figure 8, but sideways. Another guy there yelled over, "Damm Fine Group!!" That made my day It was only at 25 yards, it's just nice knowing it's set now.
Next time will work at 50 and 75 yards and see how far the groups spread and tweak if needed. Garden: Latest news from today, talked to next door neighbor, we are using a plot where our property lines meet, to put in a garden. Whoo hoo! Was suprised when we walked it off, It will be starting as 100' by 150' with room to extend to over 200'. close to running water from my workshop building, and full sun. Gonna use a solar charger electric shocker wire for deer control. (fingers crossed). Can always use the Sluggers if that don't work.  
Glad to have the pile of compost from fall, I know where it's going now! This has nothing to do with prepping, but, mowed the frikkin lawn today, first time, it was overdue. Neighbors are on their 3rd mowing. I waited as long as possible, knowing it would only bring on more growth, and more fuel usage. It was really tall and thick, but the brand new deck blades did the trick, they felt no pain. Today hit 79 degrees!! 5 more than they expected. Highest we have had in 2009 so far. Feels like planting weather. |

Went to Ace. Tons of tomato plants and pepper plants in. Got several for our topsy turvy mater bucket. Also bought a case of the 1/2 gallon size mason jars. Have never seen this size but a buddy told me about them - holy hell! Washed them out and will load them with the 25lbs of rice i bought at sams recently. They had seeds cheaper than I've seen them so bought some okra, corn and radishes.
Got my arfcom zombie response team sticker and patch today. Sticker is already on the truck! Patch going on the tact vest! |
45 gallons of unleaded gasoline 87 octane 10% ethanol (because I cant seem to find regular gasoline, every station has this crap! ), with healthy dose of stabil, and 20 gallons of propane. The ten gallons worth of plastic cans are empty, thought I would include them as special effects .

I have repainted (sanded then spray painted) most of them red and used a homemade stencil for the lettering. |

Mayors goat "Freckles" lost her first twins. Both breached. He spent the night in the woods 2 nights ago with her. She's ok. Had 2 live sets of twins last 2 days.
Saw 2 sets of fawns with does on way home tonight. 5 in the road up a mile last night. Good. Tilled my unplanted portion of my garden yesterday. Replanted where I lost black eyed peas. Whole garden is planted today. That wheeled planter sure is the ticket. Sweet corn, red kidney beans, snap beans, pintos, squash, squash, squash, zuchinni, more peas etc, etc. Planted in the rain this morning and when it cleared up I got her finished. Nice gentle soaking rain this afternoon. Perfect. Thank you Lord. Went through what I had left and made up 2 care packages for "wufless" neighbors and one old wise freind of mine. Had run in with their big whit dog, wanted to shoot the prick, jumps all over you and bit my hand twice. Stupid fuck. I think he now knows I carry........put a couple in the ground so he'd chill. Stupid uncultured puppy. Reminds me of his owners. Mayor came over early this morning. Boy was he pissed. Brought the shrooms back, his wife left them in the sink for 2 days..........almost shot. He explained to me how to fry them up. My first time. They turned out pretty good. We've got at least 4 good spots for Morels now, I will prolly go shrooming in the morning. Gonna try freezing them. Nuke 'em to heat em up. Restaurants do it, should work good. |

another first this week. Just witnessed the birth of goat twins. Pretty cool stuff. I forgot my dinner invite and went over to say sorry I forgot. Figured the Mayor and Mrs. were taking his Mom home so I went by there. Another goat in labor, within a half hour of my arival she had twins. Cool.
Those little goats are the cutest creatures I've ever seen, except for my little girls. He's got 9 now counting the 2 new ones tonight. Lost 2 the other day and 4 last month, Quads, that were early. Up to about 95 goats now with about another 40 about to give birth......... |
