I am lucky I drive 2 miles to the job, even with 17mpg in the Jeep. ell was have to see wht the new tires do I went from 31s to 33s. did make a total of 526 KWHs, and today is a good day, should have 700KWHs at least by the next meter reading. Have to start the new pantry and write a nasty email to Gurneys, their plants are the worst, Fruit trees are pathetic and the other rootstock looks dead. |

you guys are killin me .. I used to go to the store and pick up a half dozen cans of this and a half dozen of that now its a case of this and a case of that, and it doesnt even make it to the kitchen ! Off to the storage room it goes ...........  today ????? 4 cases of veggies cost me $400, since a 5500W genny decided to find its way into my truck before I left the store ... last week it was four cases of veggies and tuna and 25# rice and 20# beans

Fixin to go to the gym for cardio in about half and hour. Found a good source for a couple of spare magazines for my newly aquired HK P7's. On Saturday, heading up to the BOL with my sweetheart to spend the weekend, always bring more food than we use, leave a few cans up there each time, extra water, box or two of ammo. Plus get to shoot my toys, and keep in practice. Lookin' forward to that. |

| Bought 1 brick of .22lr, 100 CCI mini-mags, and 50 rounds of CCI .22 Mag. Tomorrow I am taking a 1/2 a day off and going target shooting. I have to sight in my new scope on my Marlin .22 mag. I think I will shoot some .22lr as well. I probably will not shoot my AR, need to conserve ammo. |

My wife & I went to the big city for a shopping trip. We took advantage of a sale on PowerAid at .49¢ for a 32oz bottle. I bought two cases. The store also had CLIF bars! I've been looking for them & finally located them. I tried one on the way home and I can recommend them for your GHB/BOB.I added a little more canned fruit to the pantry while my dear wife used some coupons to get some free over the counter drugs. Alas, no B&M canned bread was to be found.  I did note that the isle with the rice was quite picked over. ALL the rice in larger packages was gone. 1 & 2 pound packages were all that was left. I'm glad I was ahead of the curve on rice hoarding

Not sure how much this could be considered prepping and how much is just adjusting to a new economic reality, but... I bought a Scion xD. Playing musical vehicles a bit. Short version is that I get 3-4 more mpg out of wife's SUV than she does (21-22 vs. 18, she's a run and gunner), so I'm taking that over. She's gonna be driving the Scion, and my diesel truck is sitting in the garage waiting for those things I need a truck for. I didn't want to spend money on a car, but we drive a lot. Net hypothetical result is ~$400 in fuel savings per month in exchange for a $250 payment. So by BUYING a car, we're making ~$150 more per month. I still scratch my head at the concept. |

I got to do a lot the last week or so. Put new beefier coil springs on the 4runner, got an oil change, replaced spark plugs and wires, windshield wipers, and air filter. Talked to parents about prepping and think they might be close to coming on board. Discussed "where would you go if... with my Dad and younger brother. Got rid of an ear infection. |
you can never play the "what if" game too much. yeah, i know it's not a game, but you know what i mean. when i went through the police academy, the head guy kept reinforcing the idea that you always have to ask yourself, "what would i do if . . .". definitely keeps you on your toes. but it also forces people to deal w/ possible reality. |
Yesterday I went out to the local Fred's (Kinda like a Dollar General) and they were having a going out of business sale. Everything was 20-60% off!  I bought damn near everything in the store that was useful for SHTF. Canned Turkey, Spam, medical supplies, work gloves, spray paint, charcoal lighter fluid, bleach, lantern oil, you name it. I filled up an entire shopping cart with really useful long shelf life items for right around $100! I guess the sale had been going on for several days so a lot of things were sold out already. But I made the most out of it and now I'm even better set up. Now if I could just convince my wife to replace supplies that she takes out of the stocks with fresh items.

Yesterday. After dropping off a patient in Jackson, made a quick little side trip to Harbor Freight (they just opened a new store a couple of months ago). Picked up an EZ Fill propane coupler (been trying to find one of these for a long time) for filling one pound tanks from twenty pound tanks, and a propane tank guage, and a new hose and regulator for one of my burner/fish cookers. Also picked up a couple of packs of FATAL FUNNELs to help reduce the wasp and yellow jacket population around here. In case anybody wanders what these are. They are little yellow plastic flower looking funnels. You take a 2 liter bottle, cut a small hole in the side of it and insert the funnel. Then you mix up a concotion of fruit juice, sugar, and a piece of raw meat and hang it ouside. Wasps, flys, yellow jackets etc go in for lunch and can't get back out, drown in the soup. The more that die the better they like the smell, the more they come to it, the more they die.

Got 700 rounds of 9mm for free! Long story. Did a deal sold part for the original price and pocketed the ammo all in 5 minutes Worked on my range. Pics when it is done in a few weeks. Bought 1 complete AR lower and put 2 together for a friend. Plowed and disc the neighbors garden for cash last night. Took care of my chickens. |

Since the last post, received in the Gerber Shovel. Its a nice sturdy compact that folds up quite small but has enough strength to it that it should handle a tough job. Its basic principle is the same as the Vietnam Ear shovel except short steel handle and heavy duty wide plastic handgrip that has a pushbutton to allow it to slide down making it more compact. It comes with a nice little carrying case. IMHO, Its too much shovel for the pack unless you plan to go to war but a nice little shovel for under the seat in a car or truck camping with limited space. I have a bunch of shovels and try to keep one in every vehicle. This one will go in my new truck. Bought on the REI sale this was $11 which is a hell of shovel for that price much sturdier than the similarly normally priced the same China Brands. It should last more than just a few holes. I also received in the MSR Mini-works also on sale at REI for $60. My primary due to what water I have to deal with is the First Need due to virus concerns but the Mini Works with its ceramic filter and activated charcoal center that's field cleanable has been one of my favorite filters. Like the other ceramics, it should have an excellent life and I definitely have seen it work in giardia contaminated water so know it works. Its primary function will be back up to my First Need and a higher volume filter for filtering stored water at home that's sit a while and questionable. I got a email today my next food order has shipped from Honeyville. This one is half survival related and well half camping related. It has two cans of instant chocolate milk.  I also got two of their ten lb biscuit mix bags which I will be storing in glass jars with 02 absorbers after doing a simply drying. I waned the smaller size than a bucket so more user friendly. Still need the jars so I guess I better get hoping on that.Last just got through loading around 50 rounds of .44 mag. I found a great load for the Blackhawk .44 50th Anniversy. Its a nickel case, CCI primer, and 5 grains of Clays with Lead SWC that has the ring seal. The Clays is a very fast powder so low recoil for the muzzle velocity. This fairly light load gives me between 850-900 fps and with the gun a very fast back on target. Excellent action load. Another added feature is that nickel case and polished lead bullet, the bullets are down right beautiful on the eye very reminiscent of the Lone Ranger's silver bullet. Tj |
