Here in PA we do get some nasty winters (or used to anyway). Can filled Scepter MFC be stored outside in winter? How about in a cheap non insulated shed? How about the red gas plastic cans?

Same question about propane tanks.

We do it
store 40/50 gallons in assorted 5 gallon containers in the unheated detached garage (aka overgrown shed).  (snow blowers, ATV, etc)

works fine.

Dang it must get cold in PA.

Freezing point for gasoline is around -40 °C to -60 °C

Most people that heat and cook with propane have their tanks outside all year.

I believe that the gas phillyd2 in the opening post was talking about is not natural gas such as propane, because I don't believe you store propane in Scepter MFC(military fuel containers).

Remember gasoline is a comination of various butane/propane/methane(constitutes natural gas) etc molecules, so that these are the basic building blocks of gasoline and so they can be stored indefinitely.

Gasoline itself are huge chains of butane/propane/methane molecules hooked together.  The longer the chain, the higher the specific heat content, but as a draw back since they are so long, the gasoline molecules is somewhat unstable and breaks down back into butane/propane/methane over time,

As not to high jack this thread I started another with more questions on storage methods to get info.

Any ideas or comments would be helpful.
