Tiger Valley is hosting its third Bug Out Drill, October 11th 2008 at its facility in Waco, Texas.  The first year 20% finished the course, last year 80% finished.  Most of the same crew did both events and improved vastly with physical conditioning and equipment.  The course will be the same this year as in the past, 15 miles on foot with over 30 challenges to test equipment and physical skills.  You will need a rifle and pistol to complete the course, everything else is left up to you.  four magazines of ammo, if you don't miss.  More to follow.....Cost is $150.00

The idea behind this one as in the past is that you are in your vehicle and bad stuff happens.  You need to move 15 mile to rescue a family member who works in a bad area.  Your vehicle has been disabled and you have to move on foot through areas both in and out of a hard core city.  Things that happened last year:  Lots of things, we hope none of which you will see again this year.

We want to test these things:
1.  Can you move a reasonable distance and still function
2.  Does your gear work like it's supposed to
3.  Can you think under stress
4.  Do you have enough gear or to much

We will have a shotgun start, one person out every 60 seconds by order of payment.  Points awarded for every challenge completed plus time through the course.

As far a I am aware, no one got hurt.  For the individuals who had difficulty and problems (myself) included, it was a great chance for a spot check and to see that some planning and effort has to be made inorder to "be prepared."  No one was seriously injured were they?

Awesome, I am planning on being there this year.  I believe that it was in August last year, so the weather should be nicer this year.  It looks like the Tiger Valley website is down right now.  Can we pay with Credit Card through the website?

HERE is a link to the photobucket account with the pics.

Is the BOD / 15 miles a one day event?  If it is, that's humping it.

Just checked TV website.  It's a one day event.

It's not that bad as long as you've got your gear sorted out and have plenty of water.  The heat will take down more people than anything else.  That and your feet.  I dropped out my first year due to some nasty blisters.  The second year, wore better fitting footwear and  changed my socks often during the event.  No blisters and I finished

OK, I've got the little lady interested in this as well.  What say ye about the wife participating?

She's still on the fence as she'd have to do some shooting / training to get ready but I'm working on her.

Also, what's the situation for significant others attending if they don't enter? Do they just hang out at the start/finish or what?

My S/O is also thinking about this, or at least doing part of it.

If this year is like years past there will be several people (wives, family, friends) attending that are not participants, so there is plenty of company.

They can watch a good bit of the stages without having to walk to far.  There where more friends and family out last year.  I see more showing up this year.

That the same Jody who gets all the girls while you're in boot camp?

Hey while we are all eagerly discussing this - I may be ripping DVD's with hundreds of tech manuals, building guides and weapons manuals, ect from my "survival hard drive" to hand out for free. (part of my job allows me to sit on my ass and just download stuff)  I would just need to know how many folks will be in at the end count.  Its not much, but is a good way to hand out some good info to some people who might actually appreciate it.

ETA: if you get a chance to download anymore stuff, can you look for stuff on agriculture? Maybe some sort of guide to farming common crops?  There seems to be a boom lately in the interest of gardening.

I have that pdf that was going around that is a whole book about growing and harvesting small grains. I am interested in small farming and harvest stuff too, so I will keep looking and adding stuff as I can.
