| My friend and I run a sayoc Kali group and are tactical instructors ourselves. We want to take our group on a week long trek through some of the Adirondacks and where we would either canoe or hike most of the week (unsure right now as to which) and we will carry all our gear on own own back out in the wilderness. Ive gone on 50 mile treks before but have never planned them. My one question is does anyone know... particularly in NY state as to what the laws are regarding camping and such on state land. Is it ok to campout and travel across state land. We will be building fires and such for cooking and are very well trained in terms of camping and being low impact or no impact for that matter. Just dont want to get fined or jailed or in some kind of trouble for doing this.... thanks guys |
| get a hold of your local land agencies and ask about their policies. Keep an eye out for burn bans in the counties you will pass through as well as for the state parks. Also another big thing to consider is your group size, some places have a size limit for the amount of people who can camp there. I know in NC has a limit for wilderness areas as to how many people you can have in a group camping. We've run into that problem with the school outdoors group I work for, luckily we caught it before it was to late otherwise the trip would have had to have been scrubbed. |
| Here in PA, the DCNR (Dept of Conservation and Nat'l Resources), governs use of public land like State Parks, State Forests, etc. They have guidelines posted on the website, you should check your governing body's site for details. Here in PA they allow backcountry backpacking/camping in State Forests but do not allow it in State Gamelands or State Parks. |
What's a sayoc Kali group? I also suggest heading to the Adirondak Park. Kinda cold this time of year though. |
