[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Life Jacket Recommendations?

I was just browsing a local sporting goods store, and happened to see a large selection of life jackets. I don't why I'd ever need one short of having to cross a fast river. But I figure it wouldn't a bad idea to have one around.

I'm inclined to get an el cheapo Type III foam core jacket somewhere, say for $20-30. Recommendations? Thanks.

Get yourself a ski vest that fits properly. The inflatable ones are on the expensive side and need to be looked after. Not a bad thing to have in your car or truck with a throw rope.

I've got a several aircraft type life jackets. The only drawback is that they are bright yellow. Other than that, they are serviceable. For get the big boxy jackets that you buy for a couple of bucks; they are too bulky.
