I remember reading about these great bottles that were super strong and easy to clean without distorting them. I think it was something that started with Nag... Anyone know these bottles and where the best place to buy them online is? Thanks! |
Any recommended sites to buy from? I need 6 of them so I would like to find a good deal if possible. |

There was a thread a while back with a promo code for a discount and free shipping direct from the Nalgene site. I recall because I took advantage of the deal at the time. May have gone the way of the Tuna deal by now though. A search of threads may bring it up. Nalgene is the good stuff. |

I can't count how many of these things I have. I have both the brand name and copies and have been happy with all of them. I do squeeze the plastic before I buy to make sure they are not too thin. Using the lid strap, you can clip them on almost anything. They are graduated so you can measure easier for cooking or ration. They attach to most water filters. They resist taste residue. They're transparent so you can see instantly how much is left. The wide mouths allow you to load in ice so your drink is cold. There's hundreds of carry systems for them. Even my favorite pack has one built in. They have cups with handles made for them perfect for cooking and fit right over the bottles bottoms. The cups sit on a stove more stable than a MIL canteen cup. I've never broken one even keeping them full of water in a car and freezing, but then I don't throw them at rocks either. They're easy to wash, the inside. Other than just cause I still have quite a few, they have all but replaced my MIL canteens and canteen cups. Tj |
Most of the water filters out there have an adapter for the wide mouth bottles. Other than that, it's a personal choice. |

I like the wide mouths because my Hiker Pro has an adapter that screws onto the bottle for filling. These are really available every where. Check your local camping or sporting goods stores. Rei, Eastern Mountain Sports, Dick's, Sports Authority, Bass Pro Shops etc. Also available online. I've never paid more than 6 dollars. Also if you do the mail order thing, I scored a bunch from REI last January when the "christmasy" ones were put on clearance, they had snowflakes printed on them with the REI logo. I don't care and got them cheap, like 3 bucks a piece. Lots of them come printed with the companies logo, a la bike water bottles from your local bike shop. |
| Just make sure you get the "hard" style. When my wife and I got our first ones for backpacking we got the flexible bottles (you could squeeze them and feel give) they were great in winter hikes because you could crack the ice but after a while they started altering the taste of water. I have not found this to be true with the hard bottles.( Note I have also not found the flexible ones for sale lately. ) as said above the wide mouth is desirable for both cleaning and water filter fit. |
