I built my house last year. Had a new wood stove installed in the basement. Well, I finally lite the stove yesterday. When I lite it, the smoke just poured into the house, It took until the stove was glowing red hot for the smoke to go up the chimney. I had no idea what was going on with it. I just had all the windows open in the house. So this morning I try to relite the stove. Same thing with the smoke. So I put the fire out and started looking at the stove. The catalytic plate on the top side of the stove was pushed all the way to the back, allowing only for an exhaust path at the front of the stove, so basically it closed the damper complete off in the stove. I guess when it was installed they must have shifted the plate. So I pushed/hammered the big steel plate to the front of the stove, hereby opening the damper. Relite the stove and all is well at my house. Just goes to show that you must try out your gear before you really need it. |
