| I am looking to get a small high lumen flashlight. I have been looking at the Surefire but are there any other brands available that are top notch like the Surefire. Where is the cheapest place to get them? |
| If for heavy usage, take a look at streamlight. You can recharge the batteries anywhere you have a source of electricity by plugging it in. I also have a surefire G2 and it is great. I used it on a camping trip. I get an average of about 1hr of light off of 2 CR123 batteries...which is the only downside I have with it. |

the new rayovack 80lumen led that runs off 2 AA's for $25. is a great deal on a flashlight imo linky I have a surefire g2 i converted to a cree led and like it too...... but for general use i like the ryovack better...... |

Generally, Surefires are the best. But there are several competing options that can be just as good depending on what you need them for. I have a Pentagon light mounted on my AR. Pentagon claims it puts out the same 60 lumens as a surefire in the same class. The Pentagon's ouput is comparable, but I'd say my wife's Surefire E2Defender put out slightly more light and has a bit more throw. The Pentagon is a little longer as well. But the Pentagon comes with a shock isolated bezel that surefire only has standard on high end dedicated weapons lights. A big plus. And the Pentagon only cost $60. It puts out plenty of light to use in my backyard and more than enough for CQB. Due to it's bigger size, if I needed an EDC tac light, I'd go for a Surefire. But I'm more than happy with this light. |
+1 On both recomendations. 1. The Fenix L2D is one of the best lights out there bar none, if Fenix made it 100% waterproof and guaranteed it to be, it would be undeniabley the #1 all around flashlight in the world. 2. Everything in your main EGT (Emergency Go To) gear arsenal should be AA powered, every house in America has remotes, clocks, walkmans, radios etc... with AA's. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a AA battery. |

+1 on a Fenix I have 2 L2Ds. I converted 1 into a P2D with a spare body tube and tail cap. I think I'm going to convert the other into a L1D. These are great flashlights. I just wish there was a way to run them off of D batteries. I have a lot of Ds in storage with my AAs and the burn time should be at least 10 times as long. |

| here is another vote for a fenix p2d I have used mine for the last year, everyday. I work in a correctional facility. It performs great on rechargable batteries, not a single problem with this light at all. Has anyone tried the new premium version with 175 lumens? Maybe I'll buy the premium one and retire my old one to the BOB. |
I have the L2D Premium, but that ones trumped by the Cree Q5 emitter. I Think that one puts out 185 lms on 2AA |
