Idk where else to post this so I'll just do it here. I am looking for a padlock that can be opened remotely or by key. I haven't had that much luck with google considering its kicking back only 1 padlock that is remote controlled. Any ideas of where to find such a thing? This is the only padlock that I can seem to find that fits my requirements. www.ambientweather.com/wirecopadlow.html |

Door locks are easy - biometric and others but I haven't seen a padlock. I've bought tons of toys from these guys. www.smarthome.com/_/Door_Locks_Access_Control/_/7/land.aspx |

The application for the padlock is for a pelican case that would be stored in a vehicle semi permanent. I was thinking that a remote operated padlock would be quick access without having any loss of time in recovering a weapon, minus having to open the case. I am trying to come up with a good method of storing a weapon in a lockable case with fast deployment for a friend. I know there are other methods for storing weapons in a vehicle but the problem comes in when you introduce overly zealous California cops. Open carry is out of the question because the county he lives in requires a permit if the population is under 250k and over that it is prohibited. Right now he has his gun(s) under the seat, in the glove box, or propped up against the gear shift. Space is limited because his vehicle is a Suzuki Sidekick. Getting a CCW license would be ideal and he is trying to get that but Cali is very finicky about issuing licenses without a valid reason. His only "valid" reason is being chased and harassed by Mexican gangs, unfortunately that reason isn't "good enough" to warrant having a CCW. |
Your friend was chased by Mexican gangs and they didn't catch him? I'd like to hear more... By making a remotely operated case, you might be circumventing the weapons laws of CA and that could get your friend in a lot of trouble if he used his weapon and there was an investigation. |

Ahhh, in this case you need to look in the custom car world. Plenty of remote operated door locks and such. This kit www.commandoalarms.com/itm00032.htm Combined with a little custom work for a latch and you have what you need. The lock will be internal, but that will suffice. You can have the remote keyfob, plus a hidden push switch to open it. If you want the padlock look so people don't screw with it, cut off both sides of the slot for the padlock and epoxy it back to the same side, the attach the dummy padlock. It looks padlocked, but when opened the padlock just dangles on one side. I am assuming this box will be hard mounted to the vehicle. |
