You would be better off pooling for a serious plane. Subs are really an exorbitant luxury. They need to be crewed by a number of people that have rare skills for sale, as opposed to pilots & engineers for a plane.

You would also have more of a chance of attracting the wrong kind of attention by people that are highly professional at helping such craft set new personal depth records.

The US Submarines website is pretty cool - definitely the luxury yacht class of subs.  Looks like you could handle them with one or two people if you wanted to spend $80 million to be a hermit...

If you could afford it it would be worth it. Could just dissapear and go to some island. Tad expensive though.
