So i went to pull my car gun out of the trunk today to clean it. Well I discover that one of my 1 gal bottles has leaked all over the trunk, and of course my case is wet. So I pull out my sks and what do I see, but rust coving the trigger guard, magazine and the rear spring cover. Luckily for me I think I caught it soon enough, and was able to wipe most of the rust off with some Rusty Duck cleaner and a good scrubbing. What did I learn from this?

1. Never just pt cheap walmart gallon bottles of water in the trunk of your car and shove them off to the side. I went and bought a egg-create to put them in.

2. Try to store your firearm as far away as you can from you water, which is hard in the trunk of a Honda Civic.

For the car I like the 1/2 size (2.5 gallon) GI water cans made by Scepter.  They call them the runt.  They don't fall over like the tall cans.  O and I like 2 liter soda bottles refilled with nice clean treated tap water.  they are tougher than milk type cartons.

Haven't had one lead yet.

On the other side of the equation, I keep my GHB and - ahem - assorted supplies in a large plastic tub that we were given as part of the city's recycling program. It's just a big hard pastic box but it's sort of a raised floor design. Keeps the bottom of the box from contacting the floor of the trunk (no seepage) and allows pooling/draining *in* the box should something rupture or spill. Maybe a similar box/shelf/net to suspend your emergency gear? Plan for failure and all that....
