Debka is not a kindly though-of resource around here but it would not surprise me in the least if Syria was indeed planning what they seem to be.

Have any of their predictions come true?  I can't remember a single one.  I guess I'll go back to sleep now.  ;)

Debka is like the New York Times' opposite reflection.  They make stuff up, slant other stuff, and spin spin spin for their agenda.

Haven't they said this before. If or when they go to war you will wake up and see it on CNN, see it at the pumps, or hear about it on the radio. I doubt you will be finding out a week in advance that there is a war.

And like the New York Times, when they are way, way, way off, it is rare to see a correction.

Debka is never right.  If I had to bet on a day war won't happen, I will take the 15th.

With who?

Israel would massacre them.

the USMC in Anbar is probably almost begging for the chance to wipe out whatever comes across that vast expanse of real estate with little place to hide....

They're not going to invade Lebanon again are they?

Nor Turkey.

So what...Jordan?

Five years ago these kinds of stories definitely got my attention.

But after five years of reading about things that never materialized, and not just at debka but they're on the list, it barely even registers anymore.

WND says August or September.

I've heard from other sources that it will be a four front war as well.

After too many false alarms I tend not to put too much stock in what Debka reports.  World Net Daily on the hand...they have beaten the "main stream" media to story's in the past. Sometimes by months.

When I heard that Hamas had taken over the Gaza strip I had this sick feling in the pit of my stomach that the timer had just started on a yet another Mid-East crisis.  I emailed this concern to a former professor of mine ( MIddle Eastern history ) and he emailed me back saying that he was afraid I was right.

Due to my big mouth, I am exiled to the...I mean assigned to the afternoon shift at work.  When I went into work, gas was selling for $3.09.  Upon leaving work, I noticed it was in the $3.25 range.  Gee, could our friends the oil companies be getting nervous for some reason ?

There is my .02 worth.

Anyone see the reports that Turkey has 150,000 troops on the Iraqi border?

That whole region is heating up more than usual.

Yes, also YNET, and MEMRI are reporting big build ups and troop movements. Folks I've seen a bunch of false starts over the last few years, But none of them compair to the crap that's happening now.

Exactly! The Turks are probally going to make a move into northern Iraq, but, Turkey isn't Syria, an Turkey is more powerful an has more friends then Syria. Of course, I may be wrong......

Not a chance in hell of this happening.  I understand the whole Turks vs. Kurds thing, but it makes absolutely no sense for the Turks to do this NOW while the US is still in the neighborhood.  I don't see what they have to gain from it.  They can kiss EU membership good bye.

Perhaps the Syrians have deluded themselves into believing that they can take Israel on now, in the aftermath of the somewhat botched Israeli campaign against Hamas in Lebanon recently. The Arabs have always been good at believing their own propaganda.

Or perhaps Syria plans to use the stockpile of chemical and biological weapons that they got from Saddam a few years ago....

I feel that same way. Both Debka and WND for the last couple of years have reported  about certain situations developing that never bore any fruit. But even as some of their detractors must admit, if you keep making claims about this or that happening, sooner or later they are bound to be right, and I think this time they are closer to the bulls-eye that in the past .  Noticed that gas price hike myself when I filled-up the F-250 this afternoon.

Just my .02

Right...

Debka is like a blind squirrel with an agenda.
That said...they are usually on the ball with their Israeli related news.
I've been out of contact with "the world" for a couple weeks, but I'd put money on a confrontation between Israel/Syria before the end of August.

Debka seems to be the zionist version of the Weekly World News.

I'm going to add my analysis to these reports.  Do take Debka seriously, they are generally correct.

Anyways, I just returned from Israel yesterday.  I spent time all over the country and on Monday I was in the Golan Heights.  They have converted the captured syrian positions into parks.  Artists have dismantled the syrian t55 tanks and made dinosaurs out of them.  Anyways, it was captured because the area overlooks Syria, Jordan and Israel.  You can see Damascus from the Golan.  Syria used the Golan to launch rockets into Jewish Kibbutzs constantly.  For 30 years, the civilian inhabitants on the Jewish side lived in bomb shelters.  Then in 1967 Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, Liberia, and Saudia Arabia attacked Israel.

There are a lot of Israeli security forces in the Golan.  Syria would not be able to take the area.  The ground is still littered with t55 tanks from the last time that they attempted to go into the Golan.  The villages that would be vulnerable to attack are inhabited by Arabs, not Jews.  Terrorists would not be able to get through to Israel.

The valley into Israel is completely defendable.

If Israel is attacked, it will fight back with might and fury.  Israel is a wonderful country with 6 million inhabitants.  The army is very well trained and equipped.  The entire country is military reserves.

With that said, I would not be surprised if they stupidly attacked.  Iran has also implemented gas rationing in their country to prepare for a military confrontation.  Syria is not in much of a position to carry out a war right now.  They are having lots of problems absorbing Iraqi refugees.  It is now into the millions.  Iran's population is very unhappy with their rulers and on the verge of another revolution.  A war on their side would be suicide.  It is about 6 minutes from Israel to Damascus in a jet, and I gurantee that Israel would get to Damascus first.  If there is a war it will not last long.

To the left side is Syria.  Damascus is in the distance, not visible in the pic, but it can be seen on clear days.  The middle buildings are the worthless UN outposts.  Beyond that is a valley littered with blown up syrian tanks.

Another view of the same area.

Old syrian base.  The sign points which way to look to see the other middle eastern cities.

Captured Syrian base converted to a park.

Syrian Bunker captured by Israel.

Remains of Syria's last attempt at capturing the Golan Heights.

Syrian T55 tank.  It has been converted into artwork by a Japanese artist.  Kind of a nice FU to them.
